Re: Big matchup with Arkansas State
We have been playing lights out for 5 games now, dating back to making Toledo look like a D II school in the DG Bowl. One game may be a fluke. Two games momentum. But 5 games is a trend. We are 4-1 in that stretch, losing to a top 10 Big Ten team we could have beaten. Falling back on my experience as a sports chaplain, I can see only one thing besides injuries that could trip us up: the young kids on this team realizing how good they are and getting scared or arrogant. I have seen both happen. Last week I mentioned to Coach that he might have a Secretariat on his hands. In humble fashion he didn't reply.
For those who do not follow horse racing, Secretariat or Big Red was the first triple crown winner in 25 years back in 1973. He was shunned, put down and his trainer and owner were told they did not belong. Then came the Belmont Stakes. Big Red took off from the gate and didn't look back winning by a stunning 31 lengths. (My wife is an equestrian athlete. I hear about Big Red from her often.) His youth and confidence and his trainer's and rider's belief in him took him where no other thoroughbred had gone before him. Guys we may have us a Big Red in black and gold. Time, injuries, luck, etc may get in the way. However, I am going to enjoy watching these young stallions win, lose or draw.

Every game to date has been solid for us. AState is desperate for any win right now. We have to assume they will play their best ball of the season come Tuesday night.

This is exactly how I feel. We need to come out and jump them like we have others. We cannot afford to allow them to get their mojo back because Hansen can wear us out.

What a GREAT POST!!!!!!!!! Maybe best post ever in the history of Yosef's Cabin & the MMB.appstate77 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 06, 2018 1:00 pmWe have been playing lights out for 5 games now, dating back to making Toledo look like a D II school in the DG Bowl. I completely agree. I have been watching App football for 30+ years. I have said in a number of posts that this may be the best team ever ... and BY ALOT! There is something special going on here. This team has so many strengths it is amazing. And, I agree with you about potential problems ... getting scared or arrogant. Coach's reaction to your question though leads me to believe he's got this covered too.

Great post '77! I'm leaving for Memphis tomorrow morning and then over to Jonesboro on Monday. I'm ready and excited to watch our "Big Red" continue to execute in a very important conference tilt!

Despite my whining about cups with ice and all that stuff, watching this team has been a joy. I follow a lot of CFB and there's a lot of fanbases who aren't happy with their on-field performance. I would say north of 70 percent.
This is fun and I hope the fun continues on Tuesday night.

Re: Big matchup with Arkansas State
To add to it ... The average heart of a thoroughbred weighs 9 pounds. Secretariat had a heart that weighed 22 pounds, biggest ever seen. The Belmont announcer called him "a machine" in that race. I hope our team proves to have tremendous heart and can be called "a machine" when it's all said and done. After Tuesday, we'll have a better idea of how it is.

Anyone coming in for the game have a safe trip...and bring a poncho just in case. 50/50 chance of rain.

I read that (in part), and I conclude it must have been written by a Coach's wife. No one else would have written such a rose-colored-glasses essay.Gnomeneer wrote: ↑Tue Oct 09, 2018 10:35 amAfter reading this:

I like that it's their 1,000-th game. Tradition is good.
Ok, Ark. State may very well be a good football team. They are about to meet a great team.
I may not get much work done this afternoon. How much longer till kickoff?

Don't have time to read this yet but saw this:
While the Red Wolves secured a winning record against non-conference opponents for the first time since 1995,
I knew that were horrible against OOC opponents recently, but since 1995? Unbelievable..
