I am truly a rookie when it comes to knowing much about the betting line. I know that -7 means we're favored by a TD. Now, does that take into account the 3 pt home field advantage? And if you placed a $10 bet for App to beat the spread, what would be the return? Thanks.

A $10 bet returns $19. Origanl bet plus 90%. Line has moved 1.5 points since opening at 7.5. It takes abou $500k to move the line one way or another. Yes, the odsmakers tend to give he home field a 3 point advantage, but it really means nothing when placing the bet.

Guys,
In the method you are speaking - If APP beats whatever the spread is you win your wager only. Not one cent more.

There are money lines that pay for straight up winners, they are based on percetages that one wagers.

So on a point line, you bet $100 to win $90. So you would get $190. On a money line, you bet on the outright winner, regardless of point spread. App is -$110 against the M/L. You bet $110 to win $100.

Oddsshark computer is saying 47-29 App State....They were very close on the Penn State game. Line is at 9 to get people to place bets on the other side it looks like, and they don't think this App State team plays very well on the road. Whats is it going to take to show them. But computer says App State will cover the spread with a 77 percent certainty. Lines at 10 now.

Havent seen a money line yet, but with the point spread moving up, we know that betting on APP will cost more, say $175 to win $100

Seems out of whack, game should be a pick, if the line is only APP -110?

Seems out of whack, point spread should be around a pick or a little more, if the money line is only APP -110? Someone said computer shows APP a 77% chance winner.

Dont forget Vegas has built palaces on sure winners .

So house keeps 10% on each bet to cover there expenses and profit. The line should be made where half the money falls each way. The money is moving from one better to another with the house taking 10%.

And the bet pays not based on when the bet was made but the final line. That is how horse betting works and other parimutual betting works.

The only time I ever bet on humans is at jai alai, and they were union members on the court so I did not mind helping a brother keep the business going, which is just about dead now. Some of these lines for App football though have been a bit crazy in how low they have been compared to the results.
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

$110 is pretty standard for spread that size.

Correct. The house keeps 10%. Also known as the ‘Vig”.

The bet pays on the line at which you bought in. So if you bought in at -7.5 on App then that is the outcome that you want. Now let’s say the line jumps to 11, then you can place another wager on Arky St getting 11. If App wins by 8,9, or 10, then you win both sides.

Fun fact. Oddsshark also had us at like 12 in the nation last week so theres’ that. Crazy what happens when you use actual data.
