I really don't think we will crack the AP this week. Beat LaLa and Southern, then we might be there. Obviously, I would be thrilled to be wrong.

Appalachian State went to Arkansas State this week and dominated, and after taking Penn State to overtime, there's certainly a little buzz surrounding the Mountaineers. Of course, that Penn State game looks a little less impressive now that the Nittany Lions have two losses, and there really isn't a chance for another good win left on the schedule (thanks, Troy!).

We shall see this afternoon. Either way we continue to win every week in good fashion we will be in at some point. This team is worthy and talented enough for that ranking. Go Mountaineers!

Two more double digit wins and we’re ranked I have no doubt, it could happen with a convincing win vs ULL, but it think we’ll be 26th or 27th this week.

Why is everyone hoping to break the top 25 so bad? I know it would be one hell of an achievement, but is it really that big of a deal right this moment? Just win out and it will happen when it happens.

You are correct win and things will take care of themselves.

Why are people so concerned about App fans talking about rankings?

Is you don’t want to participate, I understand, perhaps you think fan board comments will jinx us (they won’t).

The reality of being a win or two away is pretty neat, especially given the state of conversation just five years ago.

Would you not rather be ranked half a year vs at the end of the year? The more time we are ranked, the more publicity. Also, the earlier we get ranked, the more opportunity we have to move higher.

For me, it’s another “we will never be” crossed off. The sooner, and the more often, the better.

The college football beat writer for The Tampa Bay Times thinks we should be ranked. It’s nice to get some national recognition. Also, Chris Falica, aka, the Bear for College Gameday thinks we should be ranked as well.

I look at it more as a benchmark kind of thing. I had fought with so many CFB fans over the years trying to tell them we do special things up on the Mountain and that this team would make the transition like no other. We have an incredible tradition, incredible fans, great staff and facilities and now our time has come to be nationally recognized. Reaching the top 25 would be a badge of honor, and just another layer to our foundation to build upon.

Go Apps!

Because it’s fun to root for it.

Not sure what the angst is with some on here about people hoping and rooting for it. No one is ranting or cliff side because we are not in. All I see are passionate fans having fun and wanting to see their team in the national limelight. Not sure what’s wrong with that.

I want to be ranked to rankle our old SoCon buddies......Vermin Horseys, Wufford Puppies and the Kullowhee Kittycats who predicted we would get lost in the FBS nether regions. My son is a WCU grad and he is not happy about us doing so well.

Why? Here’s why. People who follow CFB closely know we are legit. But to the casual fan, we aren’t really on the radar. The casual fan doesn’t recognize a team as being good until they break the top 25.

I realize that is stupid, and the AP voting system is completely flawed. Regardless, it is a huge boost in national exposure for the university. The sooner it
happens, the sooner we can start climbing up it.

And not to mention it is good for the school and program as far as name recognition. It would also be nice to be ranked before the playoff poll come out.

That’s the best reason to want to be ranked at this point. Rankings are an independent review of your program that every kid understands.

I got a WCU grad at work that was doing his best to convince me (and himself) that we would be irrelevant for years to come when we made the transition. Needless to say, he has refused to say anything over the last 3 years.

I posted earlier this week that national writer Pete Fiutak was on the radio touting us as well. I've heard a few national guys talk about the "casual" fans and pollsters sometimes still associate us with FCS versus being a G5. This top 25 ranking would help change that i think.
