Scenarios and Tie Breakers

Unread post by md64179 » Fri Oct 26, 2018 7:31 am

Maybe someone can tell me how this works.

Assume we win out including beating Troy, and Troy beats southern leaving us all with 1 lose. Who would be the champ of the east and why?

Thanks

From the Sun Belt website:

If three or more teams are tied atop a division at the end of the season, the following criteria are used, until one team remains and declared the representative of the Football Championship Game.
The team with the highest winning percentage in games played among the tied teams shall be declared the Division Champion;
If still tied, highest winning percentage of tied teams within the division;
If still tied, head-to-head competition against the team within the division with the next best overall Conference winning percentage (4 and 5) breaking ties using the Conference tiebreaking procedures proceeding through the division until one team prevails;
If still tied, combined highest winning percentage against all common non-divisional Conference opponents;
If still tied, if one team was ranked in the latest available CFP Selection Committee rankings and wins in the final weekend of the Conference regular season, it will be declared the Division Champion. If in that same scenario, the team that was the highest ranked team in the latest available CFP Selection Committee rankings loses in the final weekend of the Conference regular season, a composite average of selected computer rankings (Anderson & Hester, Billingsley, Colley and Wolfe) will be used to determine the Division Champion;
If there are multiple teams ranked in the latest available CFP Selection Committee rankings, the highest-ranked team that wins in the final weekend of the Conference regular season will be declared the Division Champion;
If none of the ranked teams win on the final weekend of the Conference regular season, a composite average of selected computer rankings (Anderson & Hester, Billingsley, Colley and Wolfe) that include all games on the final weekend of the Conference regular season, will be used to determine the Division Champion;
If no teams are ranked in the latest available CFP Selection Committee rankings going into the final weekend of the Conference regular season, a composite average of selected; computer rankings (Anderson & Hester, Billingsley, Colley and Wolfe) that include all games on the final weekend of the Conference regular season, will be used to determine the Division Champion;
If still tied, the team with the highest overall (Conference and non-Conference winning percentage against FBS teams shall be the Division Champion;
If still tied, the Division Champion will be determined by lot, conducted by the Commissioner.

So, if we win out (which means beating Troy) and Troy wins out until us (which means they beat GS), GS wins out except for a hopeful loss to Troy then we have a 3 way tie for the Sun Belt East and it falls to CFP ranking (if ranked) then to the computer rankings. Have no idea how those would play out...anybody have knowledge of that scenario?

"The team with the highest winning percentage in games played among the tied teams shall be declared the Division Champion"

The cancelled Southern Miss game could become a factor.
