Out of curiosity and being trapped in an airport, I’ve been perusing the boards of some our peer and prior peer institutions for reaction to our ranking. It spans from shock, to anger, to admiration to ignorance. With some surprising twists and turns!

Herdfans lament adding UNCC and not us.

Ninernet is so dead you’d think it was the off-season

Arkansas State den is complimentary and frustrated with our success and their inability to replicate

Egriz was very dismissive and backhanded (that one shocked me the most)

JMU surprised me a bit and are actually quite congratulatory

Furman, WCU has brief mention with little reaction. Montana still shocks me the most. I have a lot of respect for their program and actively cheer for them in FCS. Didn’t realize they were so salty.

If you're talking about this thread, I take most of the negative posts as people who are trying to make themselves feel better about being in FCS.

Apparently because we didn’t win the national championship the year we moved up, the decision is a total failure. Success is a long slog, not an overnight flash.

I definitely read it as a lot of sarcasm versus saltiness. It actually was a little depressing. I couldn’t tell you who was relevant in the FCS anymore. I feel bad for programs with great fanbases like the Grizz. The FCS is dying as the stronger teams have all moved on.

Go give a look to UNC's message board. They all want Satterfield and def don't want to play us next year.

Looking ahead to this coming weekend, there are several bottom top 25 teams that could lose and provide an opportunity for us to move up should we win on Thursday.

An overrated #21 USF at 6-1 Houston
#14 WSU at #24 Stanford
#22 NC State at 5-2 Syracuse
#18 Iowa at #17 Penn State

Personally, as an NC State 2nd fan, I'm secretly hoping they lose so that we can be ranked ahead of them and start touting us being the best team in NC.

Go give a look to UNC's message board. They all want Satterfield and def don't want to play us next year.

There was a guy on their board that was at our game last weekend. He gave us praise for the gameday atmosphere. He finished by saying that our fans really don't like UNC. It came across as an arrogant statement. Imagine that. Like we are supposed to like UNC because we are not a P5 or because we are smaller. If Satt goes there I will literally get sick. I'd rather see him go anywhere but UNC, and my wife is an alum. I can't imagine going to a UNC game with my wife and seeing him on the sidelines. Don't crush me like that Satt!

I'm in the exact same boat. I graduated from both schools but my football allegiance is 99% with App.

this is my favorite/maybe most accurate post from UNC's board...

App State is a wholly different culture from UNC and one we can not replicate. NCSU, ECU, and App State all tail gate in superior fashion to UNC. I don’t know about Wake and Duke. App State fans are rabid and they travel like a mini-Clemson.

There’s a story from years ago when App State played at Miami (when Miami was Miami). Afterward one App State fan noted, “We May have lost the game, but we won the tailgate!” That’s something of which UNC will never be accused.

I don't think either would jump us, but understand your opinion. I thought UVA would jump us after their Duke win. If we win, it's against a 6-1 Georgia Southern team and think we are the popular team to go with now, people want to see us succeed.

I think we need to see Houston lose one more game and then win the AAC championship game over either UCF, USF or Cincy. That would improve our chances for a NY6 bid, and obviously we need to win out including the SBC championship game...played on a hopefully frozen field in Boone.
