Play at neutral site All Conference champs make playoffs.

That sounds nice but results in an odd number of games. Also, matching the Sunbelt against the SEC champ would hardly be doing us any favors in that the argument could be made that the SEC represents a highly disproportionate number of national champion level programs. If not for the rise of Clemson, CUSA would have a MUCH easier path and almost all the others would have a relatively easier path (most years). Nobody in the Big12, PAC12, or even the Big 10 (this year) is on the level of Alabama. Clemson is probably on comparable but nobody below them in the ACC is close. In terms of depth, Big10 might have the closest argument but this year they are falling short.

You would still have to account for that "oddball" result where a clear contender loses a championship game (aka Alabama)....not to mention independents (Notre Dame).

In any given year, the G5 really doesn't have multiple programs with a claim to the championship track. I don't think the G5 is in a position to claim parity, but we do have a right to representation.

I wish the National Media (*cough* ESPN) would lose the mindset of a team losing their CCG, but deserves a chance for a National Championship.

For instance Bama last year... are they a good team? No doubt they are. But they lost. They were not good enough to win the SEC. Not playing in a physical CCG gave them time to rest & heal up. As well as gameplan the other teams.

I know its the rules everyone is playing under right now, but it is a new age form of participation trophy the way I see it.

It does seem counter-intuitive that a team could win the national championship without winning their conference championship, however I think this is more a flaw in conference championships than at the national level. Dividing conferences into regions with the "winner" of each region playing for the championship is prone to flaws. Last year's SEC actually worked fine with Georgia winning because they actually outplayed Bama and should have won the NC as well if not for THREE horrendous calls that gave Bama the chance to score their last TD in regulation. The "off sides" call on the blocked punt was HUGE because Georgia would have taken possession within field goal range. Instead, Bama got an undeserved mulligan and pinned Georgia deep. On the subsequent drive, Fromm was hit late but there was no call. I'm drawing a blank on the third one but I know there were three.

If the purpose of the National Championship is to name the best team based on performance on the field, then the best teams should be selected regardless of conference affiliation. If a conference has more than one team among the best four, then both should go.

Conference representation (or G5 representation) helps to ensure that there is a path for everyone and removes bias. That's why all P5 conference champions should be given a path. I don't think the CCGs should be an automatic exclusion though.

I hate that the first year of the Sunbelt CCG is working out the way it is. The West will wind up sending a team with at least TWO conference losses whereas the East could potentially exclude a one loss team that is ranked much higher. If by some fluke, the Western team wins the CCG, the championship becomes a big of a farce IMO. It's better than what we had, but there are obvious flaws.
