Re: Two votes in the coach’s poll
Man I’m tired of P5. Anyone with me? There are some crappy ass “P5” teams out there. It’s like some honor to even play one. The playing field is leveling my friends

Considering that we haven't had a P5 scalp in hand in over a decade I'd say Diesel is right on this one. A P5 win, any P5 win, at this point would be huge - we've gotta prove to ourselves, if no one else, that we can finish one of these things off...be it a Penn State or a Wake Forest.

You think Troy cares that they beat a crappy Nebraska? Nope. They'll be saying "we beat Nebraska" for 30 years.

Re: Two votes in the coach’s poll
They probably will, and no one will remember that it was a winless Nebraska team that currently has 2 wins. Point is that playing a top Big Ten/Sec school close gets you more pub than beating a Vanderbilt or Illinois. I’m not into the moral victory stuff, but when it comes to playing P5s, I would prefer to make a splash more so than make a ripple.

That’s what I meant in the earlier comment. We can beat several P5’s and will moving forward

Re: Two votes in the coach’s poll
As we get more established, we should be able to schedule more middle of the pack P5's. A disproportionate number of our games against the P5 have been against blue chippers. Troy got lucky this year with Nebraska being down. Their win last year over LSU is the one that is meaningful.
Next year's schedule has some real possibilities with both UNC and SC. Really hoping we nail BOTH of those teams!

EQUITY... That's the term one of the talking heads used on Gameday this past Saturday referring to UCF being ranked higher this year is somewhat based on the equity they built last year (though the "eye test" on them this year isn't that great). It does exist. App had that advantage after the 3 straight 1-aa championships, the SEC teams and Ohio State continue to get it. My point is, I believe App State will bank some of this "equity" moving to next year and it will be easier to crack the top 25.

To further YesAppCan's point, the longer we hang around 25-40 nationally the more we become a household name as a top tier G5 and it is easier for pollsters to put us in their top 25. We want to be in a position to START the season either in top 25 or also receiving votes. That is how you work the system. EQUITY

Re: Two votes in the coach’s poll
Yep, it's a lot easier to place App on the ballot if you've done it previously. Quite honestly, I think Troy being ranked last year greased the wheels a little for us as well. The SBC has had 4 teams receiving votes this season (App, Troy, Ark St and GaSo). The more we (as a conference) can do this the more pollsters will view SBC teams in a positive light and the easier it will be to gain votes.AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Wed Nov 07, 2018 10:17 amTo further YesAppCan's point, the longer we hang around 25-40 nationally the more we become a household name as a top tier G5 and it is easier for pollsters to put us in their top 25. Re: Two votes in the coach’s poll
I think bottom line, we have to start winning some of these P5 games, and we can’t crap the bed against teams we are ranked above and should beat.
I know we can only play who is on our schedule, but we lost in overtime to a top 20 team and the other loss is to the #87 Sagarin ranked team. None of the teams we beat are ranked above 100 in the Sagarin rankings.

If ever there was a schedule set up for us to make a NY6 run, I believe 2019 offers that opportunity to us.

Re: Two votes in the coach’s poll
The realpolitik of polls is the past equity. From a purely fair and equitable issue THIS year's polls should be based on THIS year's performance.YesAppCan wrote: ↑Wed Nov 07, 2018 9:49 amEQUITY... With that said, I am glad App has the history we have both in the more distant pass going back decades and in the more recent years of the FBS. Something to be proud of as a Mountaineer and glad we can use it in various ways.
