App State's Corey Lynch and Marques Murrell, through the eyes of others
Re: App State's Corey Lynch and Marques Murrell, through the eyes of others
Great article! Two of those guys mentioned the Eastern Kentucky game. I was at that game with wife and two sons. I had forgotten Lynch broke his elbow in the 2nd half.
At the GaSt game, my son said he remembered a play with Lynch that prolly no others would. Well, Nic Cardwell did in that article. Right at the end of the half we were up by a few pts and punted. The EKU returner got the ball on like the goal line and rumbled all the way down and almost scored. Lynch came from across the field and all the way down and tackled the guy on the one. We eventually won that game but we both think we would have lost if they had scored right before half. Wow! What a play!!!!! We knew right then Lynch was special.

Great recognition for these guys. One of my fondest memories is the total domination by Hunter and Murrell in the 2nd half of the 2005 Championship game. They were getting double and sometimes triple teamed every play yet were all over the QB with the eventual Murrell QB hit and Hunter recovery and TD run. Just an inspiring performance and being an old Mountaineer I was so pleased that App finally got over the hump and won that first FCS/1AA National Championship. (Northern Iowa is still waiting) Among other plays, Lynch's FG block against UMich will live forever in the history of NCAA football.

I was there too. Hunter's fumble recovery for a TD was epic! As I recall, prior to that fumble, App was down 14 - 16. The pressure by our DBs on Northern Iowa's QB was immense.

I was friends with Jason and used to play basketball with him often. He was a great athlete and him and Murrell combined were special. He and Murrell were the first players I congratulated on the field after that ‘05 Championship game. That was one of the first road trips I took with my wife-to-be also. Man, that was a special experience I’ll never forget.
