Re: Top 25 Ranking
At this point with all the 4 loss teams in the top 25, even if we win the rest of our games, I don't see us getting back in.

It’s come, it’s gone, it ain’t happening again this Season. Ga southern got its first win over a top 25 team and the sunbelt will most likely finish with 0 votes in the final ap poll.

Re: Top 25 Ranking
3 Sun Belt teams are receiving votes in the Coaches Poll. There are 3 MWC teams ranked in the Coaches Poll and 2 in the AP. Obviously a lot depends on what happens in front of the Sun Belt teams but if App or Troy wins out, they'll be ranked in at least one, if not both, of the polls.
Comparing the 2 conferences overall, the MWC is 68-65 and the Sun Belt is 56-53. Fresno St. has a very similar resume to App except they beat a trash A5 team in UCLA (3-8) but have losses to A5 Minnesota (5-6) and G5 conference foe Boise. To be honest, not really sure how they are ranked in the Coaches and #26 in the AP but if that resume can get them ranked, I have no doubt App can be again too if the Mountaineers win out. That would be 3 wins against teams with records above .500.

Re: Top 25 Ranking
What I can't understand is why the G-5 coaches are not giving any respect to the top G-5 teams. With 32 of the 65 pollsters in the coaches poll being G-5 coaches, why are there so few G-5 schools in the top 25 and why are there 4 loss P-5 teams in there? I guess we can't expect to be respected by the P-5 if our own coaches don't show us any respect.

Agreed. It'll be time to beat the #RankAppState drun again.
We got the first ranking and now we'll be better prepared for the second time.

Re: Top 25 Ranking
If we win out, including a trouncing of Troy, SunBelt West competitor, and a similar Toledo type Bowl result from last year, I see no reason why we wouldn’t be ranked. Our 2 losses would have been an OT loss to PSU and a loss to GS after our QB went down early and our best OLB was tossed. These rankings are subjective and those are some pretty glaring facts. App has one of the best defenses in the country, regardless of the opponent.

Re: Top 25 Ranking
I heard one of the AP writers say on talk radio the reason they voted for App prior to the Southern loss was not "who" we were beating but that we were blowing other teams out. We seem to be back to that with Zac back and healthy. Doubt we blow Troy out, but I sure hope so.

Re: Top 25 Ranking
At least were were there albeit briefly. I don't subscribe to the argument that we lost at GS because we started believing our own hype though. More on the fact we were down three of our top starters, in the rain, and at our arch-rival's home. Losing to them was ALWAYS a strong possibility, whether or not they were 7-0 going in or 0-7. (I remember one year back in FCS when they came to Boone just off a #1 pole ranking and we beat them like a drum)
If we can win out, beat Troy (arguably the best team in the conference), win the conference championship and then win the bowl game, we might be able to squeak back into the top25 as a season ending poll, which would be good, or at least we could make enough noise to be ranked at the get-go of 2019.

And without our Jalen Moore too, even though it's hard to argue with Evans numbers and breakaways every game since.appstatealum wrote: ↑Tue Nov 20, 2018 11:23 pmIf we win out, including a trouncing of Troy, SunBelt West competitor, and a similar Toledo type Bowl result from last year, I see no reason why we wouldn’t be ranked. If we can squeak in after a bowl win, at least we’d be able to hang on to it longer this time.hotrod2001 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 21, 2018 8:53 amAt least were were there albeit briefly. Maybe it'll carry over to next season as well, making the climb easier?AppRolls wrote: ↑Wed Nov 21, 2018 9:49 amIf we can squeak in after a bowl win, at least we’d be able to hang on to it longer this time.hotrod2001 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 21, 2018 8:53 amAt least were were there albeit briefly. Re: Top 25 Ranking
The problem with having our bowl game tie-ins the way they are is that it is almost a month after a bowl victory before the pollster vote. I would guess that any victory we have in a bowl is mostly forgotten after 35 more bowl games are played after us. Maybe we would be better off in the Arizona bowl because it is at the end of December. Maybe we could get a good MW team there too and get away from the MAC conference I have grown tired of.
