So you think that DG waited around until Tuesday morning to start making at the very least back-channel calls on this whole deal? Just because this has been 4-5 day process for you doesn't mean it's been a 4-5 day process for DG.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 07, 2018 12:58 pmJust 4-5 days is moving fast when you consider the interest and that we have a bowl game to prepare for. DG has a lot of people to consider.

Re: If we hire tomorrow
I know he did not. He has been prepping a while. Are you saying an announcement is coming Sunday with press conference Monday type thing? I felt Monday would be super early but thought we could have everything ready to announce on Tuesday or Wednesday.WarApp wrote: ↑Fri Dec 07, 2018 2:34 pmSo you think that DG waited around until Tuesday morning to start making at the very least back-channel calls on this whole deal? Re: If we hire tomorrow
My sources official say it won’t be Nick Saban. I’m also getting early reports in that Dabo is also OFF the list, although I have not verified all of those yet.
Hang tight folks, I’ll be in the war room all weekend.....

Ron Prince, App alum , former HC at Kansas State, has been hired as HC at Howard. Unlike Saban and Swinney , he was actually interested in the job.

I wasn’t critiquing your comment, just piggy backed off your comment for comedic purposes.p to loosen everyone up.
Sorry if it came off that I was directing anything to you, I shouldn’t have even quoted your post.

Jim Cantore is in Boone. Maybe he'll interview after forecasting the snowpacalypse.

Re: If we hire tomorrow
I would be surprised if Satterfield hasn't been giving input in terms of the qualities needed, assessments of certain candidates (especially internal but maybe others) and helping to generate a short list, but I imagine the final decision is 100% DG.appfanz wrote: ↑Fri Dec 07, 2018 5:46 pmJust curious but would Satterfield have any input here?AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 07, 2018 2:08 pmNo inside info on the timeline of the search but I was expecting to start hearing Monday or Tuesday.appstatealum wrote: ↑Fri Dec 07, 2018 1:50 pmRumor has it that we could know as soon as Sunday.....

Re: If we hire tomorrow
In regard to Gattis, I think he’s the best coach we could hire. He’s been involved in winning a Big10, ACC, and SEC championships and is probably about to win a national championship. I wonder if it would even get him excited to try and win a Sun Belt championship after all of that.

Re: If we hire tomorrow
If we hire externally this weekend, I really hope we don't announce until after the NO Bowl, unless the announcement comes with a solid role for Ivey as well. It would seem like we would be cutting his legs out from under him the week of the final game. I mentioned in a that I would like to see him retained as a DC if we hire externally. I guess I'm asking though...do folks think he would make a good DC? If not, how hard is it to find coaches with experience in a similar 3-4 scheme?

Re: If we hire tomorrow
I've thought about that dynamic also but we have competing priorities with the signing day bearing down on us on the 19th, so from that viewpoint we need to announce as quickly as possible to lock in as many recruits as we can. Which of course has implications for multiple future seasons and not just one game.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 08, 2018 3:55 amIf we hire externally this weekend, I really hope we don't announce until after the NO Bowl, unless the announcement comes with a solid role for Ivey as well. Also, even if Ivey isn't named HC, it's a great resume item for him to have won a game as interim head coach in this situation. It could also bear weight with the new HC to keep him on staff and he could perhaps be the next "HC in waiting" while taking a significant role as an assistant. Ivey's going to want to win this game regardless, he's performing on a national stage during prime time on ESPN. Great exposure for him unless he gets a bad attitude because someone else is chosen.

Re: If we hire tomorrow
This is what makes the process tricky. DG wants to make a hire that does not compromise our identity. So any external hire, or non App lineage hire has to embrace the 3-4 defensive scheme and most likely be willing to keep the guys in plac to run it. But to your point, I think that Ivey would make a good DC.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 08, 2018 3:55 amIf we hire externally this weekend, I really hope we don't announce until after the NO Bowl, unless the announcement comes with a solid role for Ivey as well.
