I believe he was referencing the fictional character.

Eric Taylor is the coach on the show Friday Night Lights...I'd support this move as Taylor is a "Kingmaker."

Buddy Garrity would be an asset as a booster as he can get things done but he'll demand access to all practices...and of course dinner invitations at Drink's house.

Re: Keep Ivey and as much of this current staff as possible
Just trying to lighten it up, some of this talk about hurt feelings is getting really close to what we dealt with when we had the last head coach change. I truly hope it does not deteriorate into that again. Hopefully everyone can see at this level business decisions are being made and family does not exist when we start talking about careers and paychecks.

Must have been impressed with us when we won at TMU’s stadium (Texas State’s in real life) this year...

I never realized that it was Tx State's stadium...is TMU where Smash ended up going? The show used to be on Netflix but I don't think it is anymore. I'd like to re-watch those episodes.appgrad wrote: ↑Thu Dec 20, 2018 11:43 amMust have been impressed with us when we won at TMU’s stadium (Texas State’s in real life) this year...

It's true. My father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate confirmed it.

The real truth is known by VERY few and should stay that way in my opinion. What was done was done. Our future is in the windshield not the rear view mirror.

Re: Keep Ivey and as much of this current staff as possible
The reason it matters is because it sets a precedent for the future. What assistant wants to move for only one guaranteed year? I'm a teacher and get one year contracts at the end of every year - every year is a little nerve-wracking when you're not exactly sure if you're coming back.fjblair wrote: ↑Wed Dec 19, 2018 8:20 pmYou're right it will be questioned. Seems like all the inside scoop is now originating from "fans" that have been around for a few days to a few hours. In any event, nobody cares now, it's over. They are gone, and ASU football will embrace the future with a new coaching regime.ColorAdo App wrote: ↑Wed Dec 19, 2018 7:19 pmI’m new to posting on the board here, so I know this won’t be taken too seriously or at least without questions of authenticity. However, DJ and Ivey wanted to stay at App but DG wouldn’t offer them more than a 1yr contract. It sounded like they were both pretty upset about it. Apparently DG only wants to give out longer contracts to coordinators per my understanding. Which means Ivey wasn’t going to be the DC anyway...?
Those that have more connections or an inside track should look into it and/or help us dig a little deeper.
My source is a coach that called DJ to congratulate him and DJ gave him this response.
Also, I've been reading these boards since 2009 when I got to App. It's been the same 20-ish posters with the breaking news, updates, and comments. You'd think you want some new variety. Also, if you truly think people from other universities are making accounts on here just to start trouble and spread negativity, then you think way too highly of where we stand as a university and organization. We're a great school with a really solid football program and history. This is why I hesitated posting in the first place for the first time in nine years. You guys seemed to be wanting some information - some fell into my lap - I passed it along.
I love my school, I love Boone, and I love our culture. However, if we're just going to offer one year deals to those who are imperative to our culture, that's a problem. I'm concerned for the culture. I'm concerned for the high hopes we have for our program going forward. We're going to have a brand new lineup of coaches on the defensive side and a lot on the offense and they're going to want to do it their way most likely. It would have been nice for new coaches to come in withe direction and leadership from coaches that have been here for a while and understand our systems and culture. If you want to be consistently good, you need to consistently be growing and improving on what you've done the year before. And it's not just about bringing up former players to be our coaches. Yes, that's worked in the past to some degree, but we can't just rely on them to come fill important roles on our team. We need to retain as much as possible those who are growing our program and bring in one to two at a time who are new.
App may not be a stepping stone school for Drink (like he said in his presser) but it's going to be for some/a lot of coaches in our next decade of football. I just think we've got to try our best to retain those who are best for our program as much as possible. When you offer one year contracts as opposed to a multi-year, even coaches who love Boone, have always been there, have their families rooted there, have their kids in school there - are forced to make the monetary decision for the betterment of their family.
I was lucky enough to be on the sidelines and in the locker room in New Orleans last weekend. I was able to witness the culture like I never have before. Being on the field beside Ivey as our boys lifted him up 6-7 times on their shoulders gave me cold chills. Watching/Listening to Ivey talk to the players and coaches in the locker room and how they responded to him gave me chills. Hell, just thinking of Boone gives me chills.
I'm making sure my friends in the Denver chapter of App State Alum are getting on board and donating to YC in hopes of creating (for all our sports) better offers to coaches in the future, more and better facilities, and the likes for the betterment of our alma mater.
I'll be moving back to NC in the summer and am very much looking forward to being back on the mountain with season tickets. I'm done posting for a while but will continue to read.
PS: Eastern Vinegar BBQ, Red Oak, and Sailor Jerry's Rum N Coke

I also never realized the original movie with Billy Bob Thorton was based on a true story. That is on NetFlix but yea they removed the TV show sadly.Rick83 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 20, 2018 11:49 amI never realized that it was Tx State's stadium...is TMU where Smash ended up going? Let's face it folks.....this is a blog/gossip column not unlike other teams across the nation.
Just be proud that ours is more informative and at many times more intelligent than many you see.
It's great to see the rise in participation and the overall growth of our football program and fanbase. Maybe someday we can have some Walmart fanbase too!
I SAY ITS GREAT TO BE A MOUNTAINEER AND WHAT A BANNER YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!
CHRISTMAS CAME EARLY AGAIN THIS YEAR!
FEAR THE NEER!
GO!
FIGHT!
WIN!
KICK ASS!!!!!!!!!!

Darn! I was hoping DG would have hired Hayden Fox and bring Luther along as DC.
