Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
Someone mentioned earlier that Ivey, Jones and Holt (i think) were not in the press conference. So far, no one in the press conference has been let go (that I know of) and Clark has been brought on. I imagine they are in the interviewing process and the guys in the press conference WANT to be here and have no conditions outside the norm to keep them here. Offensively, I'm pretty sure we keep everyone else and think it would be dumb to get rid off all the defensive staff remaining as they are the ones that have insight into the current scheme and players.

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
We will have a Defensive Coordinator before Sunday from what I heard from a friend somewhat close to the program.
Also heard it wasn't Roof, but my source on that isn't as close to the program as I'd like to take that as fact, so debate on about him.

Based on the fact Nic Cardwell, Greg Gasparato , and DJ smith are still tweeting/re-tweeting App commits and other app things, I think they have jobs here in some capacity .

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
I think one of the positives of a young coach is that he hasn't made quite as many contacts regionally and nationally and may be more likely to keep some of our current staff who don't make unreasonable demands. I also think that he has to be impressed with the current staff that remains because they are an impressive bunch and are still looking to gain experience and make a name for themselves.

Here's the quote: "Drinkwitz: "Brendan Harrington is long and physical and runs well. He will hit, and he played multiple positions in high school. He's physical at the point of contact and can set an edge. The sky is the limit for him. He will be a really good player in our 3-4 scheme.""HighPointApp wrote: ↑Wed Dec 19, 2018 10:42 pmRead the same thing. Spot on post.Yosefus wrote: ↑Wed Dec 19, 2018 10:24 pmDon't know what the staff will look like next year but I did see a sentence on Ethan Joyce article about signing day. It was Drinks eval on one if the defensive guys saying the kid would fit well in "our" 3-4 defense. Obviously a side note but may be a good indication he will not try and change defense set up. It took a good year or more to get the 3-4 working. A good sign. That has been my concern with the staff changes not so much with offense. This defense has been so strong the last year or so, something we have not always had.

He played at Wofford under Woody for four years. He also worked at Wofford after Woody left. Does anyone know if Wofford ran the same defense of Woody's after he left? Seems like a logical fit for at least Co-DC if he understands the nuance of the game and is prepared to take on the role of Game Planning the entire defense.ComebackShack wrote: ↑Thu Dec 20, 2018 10:41 amI'd honestly be okay with Gasparato as DC at this point.

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
I have totally, and I mean totally, been impressed with our 3-4 defensive system once it got established but does that mean we never veer from it? It seems to me that opposing OCs will figure out how to handle it at some point...kind of like how defenses figured out the spread option after a while.
Kind of feels like we're attached to the 3-4 defense the way GS is attached to the TO...just thinking out loud. We'd want to be ahead of the curve on trends but it's not always easy to see those curves coming up on the horizon.

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
Well there are a lot of different offenses but only a few defensive methods with different schemes and blitz packages built in. But as far as base defenses go, there are really only 2: 3-4 and 4-3, plus their derivatives like a 4-2-5 or a 3-3-5Rick83 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 20, 2018 11:17 amI have totally, and I mean totally, been impressed with our 3-4 defensive system once it got established but does that mean we never veer from it? If you look at our D after the snap we are sometimes in a 4 or 5 man front. At times there is not much difference in our inside lb and de. It's all about reads and mobility.

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
As I mentioned in an earlier post, Gasparato has been described as a defensive guru by other coaches on staff. A rising star. The S&C staff and football support staff I spoke with actually said Gasparato has been suggested to Drink for the DC job. Regardless of whether he gets the DC job, I hope we keep him around. GO APPS!!

Doesn't this need to be updated with addition of Clark as assistant HC?

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
Correct. Our base is a 3-4, but technically we run a multiple front defense. This is what Drink was referring to in the press conference. It gives you flexibility to find athletes that can be moved around without having to compete with the P5s to get the best at any one position.

Dude if we didn’t offer Ivey as DC we’re not hiring Gasparato as DC.
I love our coaching tree but good lord some of you guys have a one track mind. Tae Hayes is done playing. Maybe he can be DC.

Hopefully this helps with the anxiety some of our defensive guys are having.
