Good for you man. Your life must be going pretty good for this to be the worst thing going.asu7 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 27, 2018 4:40 pmThe folks here think you shouldn’t email DG your thoughts. Get ahead of the hire. Until it’s confirmed, we can change things. Our wallets speak, and look what tennessee did with Schiano

I don't actually Drink alcohol. But the point remains. Each thing mentioned is what people can look forward to with Roof calling the shots. It may not happen this season; but give it time for Roof to make the defense his own. His work history has shown that he doesn't stick around for any length of time and it has only once occurred because he was hired away for a better job, relatively speaking. He was made the Duke Head Coach and proceeded to win a maximum of 2 games in 3 1/2 season (maybe 4 1/2).Gonzo wrote: ↑Thu Dec 27, 2018 4:42 pmThis is the most emotionally immature post I’ve seen in a while. Not good. Not good...at all.
Might as well Drink on the Roof.
The book on Ted Roof is out there for all to read. He won a National Championship with Auburn, sure. But as soon as Cam Newton left town, Auburn had the worst statistical season in program history. App took 3 steps forward by hiring Ken Dorsey. Roof might be 4 steps back, especially considering the fact that Ivey was available and willing to stay which would've maintained the excellence seen on that side of the ball since the second half of the 2014 season.

18-22 year olds don't know what they are talking about. They say all kinds of things and say they are leaving but know they would be stupid to do that. They like to get attention and make it about themselves and not the program. If they leave because of a coach they have never met then see yaappstatealum wrote: ↑Thu Dec 27, 2018 4:47 pmI don't disagree. This is the only type of thinking that has kept me somewhat grounded. Drink seems too smart to completely blow it. But, the info I'm getting of player(s) leaving becuae of this is a big deal....Appstate35 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 27, 2018 4:42 pmComplaining and emailing Doug does absolutely no good in this situation. We all need to take a step back for a second and realize we do not want to turn into one of those fan bases that complains when we have a strong opinion about a hire. The truth of the matter is Coach Drink is the only person that knows what roof is capable of and why he chose to make him our defensive coordinator. This is Coach Drinks first head-coaching job and he’s not trying to screw this up. Drink obviously saw something in roof when they worked together that he liked and he obviously trusts him otherwise he wouldn’t have hired him. I think it also helps that roof has experience and can help drink through this period of his first head coaching job. We need to think about that for a second and understand that regardless of our feelings Coach drink believes in roof and we have to trust that decision

The players are good enough to win despite who is calling plays/formations.

Really hope we retain Gasparato. I have heard our coaches (some that are still here, some that aren’t) sing his praises as a rising star. GO APPS!!

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
I am not worried about anything longterm. We are definitely going in the right direction as a program. What I am worried about is fielding an incredible Offense next season and looking at our defense and wishing we had half the defense we did in 2018. This team is not in "rebuilding mode" and I do not want to waste a season due to a qusttionable DC hire. If it is Roof.I hope that means Eli knows something we don't. My expectation is an undefeated season, and that should be everyones expectation too.

App State is no one person or thing. App State is a people, a culture, and home. People and opinions will come and go, but those things will never diminish what App State means to me, to us, and to so many others. Let’s stay grounded, humble, and remember what really matters here.

Drink has already announced that he wants to run a multiple-D approach. The boss man has spoken. He will be making good on his commitment to not only gear our schemes to our existing personnel, but to specifically run a multi-front defense.
Check out this excerpt from the 2010 Auburn Tiger wiki page:
“Defensive coordinator Ted Roof's efforts were aided by replenished depth at the linebacker and secondary positions, utilizing a collection of the 3–4 and 4–3 defensive formations, also known as Multiple D strategy.”

Relax people. Trust that Drink knows what he is doing. Give all the coaches that are hired a chance. As far as players leaving is concerned: Leave a team that just won a conference championship, a bowl and 11 games total? Leave a team that has practically everybody back next year? Leave for where? Where are they going to do any better than at APP? They have a good thing going here. Anybody that left the program we have over a coach they have never even played for being hired would be the very definition of stupid!

Agree. Our culture defines the player, the player doesn't define App culture. It is just sad to see this.

Opinions aside, I think we can all agree that up to about 1-2 seasons ago, there is no point in our history where we wouldn’t all agree Roof was slam dunk for DC. Our recent success has really made us have a much higher standard. I think it’s a good mindset to have personally but interested in what everyone else thinks.

Some may call it a higher standard, others may call it delusional. Not many out there are gonna poo poo Appalachian State for hiring a guy with Ted Roofs resume.ComebackShack wrote: ↑Thu Dec 27, 2018 5:26 pmOpinions aside, I think we can all agree that up to about 1-2 seasons ago, there is no point in our history where we wouldn’t all agree Roof was slam dunk for DC. Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
I really don’t understand if it was roof (or really anyone) why we haven’t announced it yet. It is really common to see staff leave before bowl games to get a head start on recruiting or working with staff or players, so why haven’t we named one already? Roof is a Co-Dc, and I don’t think his attendance is mandatory or necessary for NC States bowl game.
I would like to think if our new DC would be a Defensive assistant maybe we would wait until after the bowl game to name him, but don’t see why a Co-coordinator couldn’t be named before a bowl game.
