One thing I just thought about: maybe all his years with PJ have given him some special insight into dealing with the triple option. That would certainly be a good thing for the DC at App State.
Exactly.

This was a top reason that Satterfield hired Woody from Wofford.....

To beat GaSo Stink....
Well that and SS also said Woody’s D was the best he went up against each year. That he found Woody’s 3-4 to be the most difficult for him/us to be successful against. If it slowed SS and our O down it must be one heckuva D and he wanted that guy on our side as we transitioned to FBS.

Do we like Roof or dislike Roof? I can't tell based off of the 20 pages of comments saying the same things over and over and over.
If I can take a stab at it.... We are split down the middle as a group, and some of us as individuals. Roof has a deep resume in Power 5 football and he ought to bring some intangibles to Drink and team. But his resume also has some red flags, that makes us hesitant to say this is a good hire. Some of us have big concerns, apparently players do as well.

Everything is ultimately on the HC's shoulders, so if Roof is who he wants on his side, he must have his reasons. This is his livelihood, I dont think he takes it lightly. That said, Roofs' resume does NOT read like that of an "Appalachian Man." Yet. We'll see.

My hope is that Roof will study/evaluate APP's successful D and continue to dominate.

I imagine the players are not as caught up in this as people on this board are. If there are players that have reservations about this hire, its probably because they are 18-24 year old kids that are simply influenced by adults they perceive to know what they are talking about. I also imagine that coach Drink and DG actuallly do know what they are doing, and will be the voice of reason for these young men. We can choose to be optimistic and welcome every hire or just roll around in misery and negativity, and be the Chicken Little of App Nation. I choose the former not the later. To hate this hire is to hate the ability and decisions of ED and DG. "I trust them, I think you can too". :D
I believe it was Mark Tain that said " worrying is like sitting in a rocking chair, it gives you something to do, but it doesn't get you anywhere. "

Excited if its Roof. Dude has seen a lot and knows a ton about football. I think we all have blemishes on the ole resume, sometimes its situational. Judging a guy who didn't have a good record at Duke is pretty short sided. I think Coach Cut is one of the best coaches in football and he cant get Duke into the ACC championship game (more than once) despite being in a really bad division. Georgia Tech D coord, yeah, that's not going to help either when your D is always on the field because they are the only P5 running the TO. There's a reason no one else runs that mess. I wonder how Saban would fair as the D coach at GT? I understand the concerns, but trust the man who has more to loose than all the people on this board combined, his reputation and livelihood are on the line, he will do his best. We have a winning football culture and Roofs stop's at similar schools with the same successful cultures have been good. Side note, yes its a chat board and free country but posting over and over again trying to convince everyone its a bad hire is not good imo. All that does it create divisiveness among the fans as well as create doubt from any possible players and recruits who read. IF you don't like the hire, ok, vent if you need to, express yourself, write the AD, that's cool, but realize your reactions do have consequences. Are you helping the situation?

I rarely post but enjoy the mostly civil discussion here but my thoughts are: Hide his name (Roof) from his profile and job history and I think most people would say this is a great hire and it’s hard to believe we have someone with this pedigree coming up the mountain. Like some others have said , a lot of how and def coordinator operates is based on the talent and confidence level he has with players executing; whether it be aggressive or bend but don’t break styles or god for bid a little of both depending on specific situations. He will be judged on his ability to adjust in in-game situations. That’s the mark of a good def coordinator IMO. Let’s not crucify just yet and trust the people paid to make these decisions have a plan.

I’m curious as to why nothing has been announced officially from Coach D. Maybe something this afternoon?

NCSU hasn’t played their bowl game yet, so I’d assume they’re waiting on that - if it is indeed Roof.

What is the hold up on WR coach? It’s been said by a few people the coach has been chosen and even been on campus for quite a few days now. Any names or hints at who it is? GO APPS!!

I hope abs this is just a hope that he is Co-DC. Maybe he and Gasparato can be Co-DC. That’s my hope.

They must have solved it in 2008. Cure being Brian Quick.

We are heading east to Raleigh for the weekend to see our oldest son. We are going to the NC State basketball game tonight and will talk with friends to see what they think of our football coaches coming from State. I have always heard good things about them I am pretty sure.

BBQ - Also, will get some of that great Eastern NC BBQ this weekend. As agreed by all on this board Eastern NC BBQ is the best! ;)

Eastern BBQ is terrible. Vinegar does not belong on any food that is good.
40 pages of hysterical tripe and somehow this is the worst post of the bunch.
This is the smartest thing gonzo has ever said, and I endorse the Roof hire.

Go to Backyard Pit on hwy 55 in Durham. Right off of 40. Best Q in the Triangle.
You are freaking me out here dude! This is exactly where we went on the way down to Raleigh and it has been one of our favorites for years. My sons saw Backyard BBQ Pit on one of those TV restaurant shows several years ago and we stopped at it on our the way back from the beach that year and it is one of our favorites ever since. Great BBQ & Ribs! I also love their mac&cheese, greens, & black eyed peas. The cold beer there does not suck either. Eastern NC BBQ rules!
