Ethan Joyce article in The Winston-Salem Journal - "I regret to inform you (again) that the hiring process for Appalachian State assistant football coaches is not over."

https://www.journalnow.com/sports/asu/f ... e%20Sports

Beat ETSU!!
Would've been a perfect time to negotiate a huge buy-out for a position coach. McDermmot is getting desperate.

Will David Baldwin stick to his commitment now with Dorsey gone? This kid has the opportunity to make depth at the position of QB a non-factor for 2 seasons. Note that this is not the same thing as people were saying about Brown. Baldwin played 3 seasons in Los Angeles and then at IMG; the IMG experience likely focused a lot on football with ex-professional players that may allow him to be game ready come August. Time will tell. That is a far cry from Brown playing at Kernersville.
Sounds like the plan was and has been for Drink to be the QB coach as much or more so than Dorsey ever was. Hopefully this won’t affect mr. baldwin’s Decision in any way
Well hopefully Dorsey had a good time.

Question: When will this Satterfield faction versus Moving On Faction come back together? Satterfield is gone. Drink is here and appears to have been doing good work in recruiting, has a three pronged approach (Triangle is the strongest shape in nature), and seems to be able to sell App State. I'm not sure what more you "hire App guys" could want. He has the App guy mentality and seems to have fit in well in a short time.

You know as well as I do that Appalachian is not for everyone. Think about this, have you ever met anyone that graduated from App that hated it? I have not and I think it is because if you do not fit you leave. It is just that miserable of a place if you do not fit. So I think that applies to coaches the same way. I would rather have a staff that is devoted to being here than one that second guesses the choices they have made to stay. Also this may be a way to handle when coach Drinkwitz gets the call to go elsewhere. The real question is what are the uniforms going to look like next year? It was hard enough to get used to that black 'A' after the white 'A'. I wonder if it is going to be gold 'A', just like the Appalachian North Carolina licenses plate has on it?

I really don't think Dorsey left because he hated Appalachian.

He left because he was offered the same job at an NFL team.

my guess is he hates buffalo a lot more than any feelings he had toward Boone.

He just got a 4X raise, so he took it.

A narrative we've already heard recently.

He also gets to work with Micky D and Mr. Beane again.

By all accounts he really enjoyed the mountains. He had been up to games while he was in Charlotte so he knew what the area entailed.

Yes, I think he liked it in Boone just fine, he just found an opportunity that he wanted more, and who knows, he may come back to Boone one day and may be an even better fit than he is right now.

This thread is going to become a part of Appalachian lore. Were you at the Michigan game? Did you see the "Miracle on the Mountain" against Furman? Did you ever drink a PBR at Boone Saloon? Did you comment on the "Coach Drink Staff Thread" on Yosef's Cabin?

You won't have to tell them, they'll be commenting here also.

Now that all our recruits have signed, I assume Drink will have time to focus on the new RB coach. Who do we think it will be? Another experienced P5 veteran or a young star on the rise?
My guess is the former, but excited to see who he brings in next.

We need to start negotiating buyouts from the get-go. Not sure what to think about these 3 leaving after such a short time. Can’t be good for the players...

Frankly, this is kind of embarrassing. It seem unheard of for 3 assistants on a new staff to leave before Spring practice even starts.

I don’t think it’s embarrassing at all. This is happening for one reason: Drink has assembled a P5/NFL-level assistant staff with a G5 budget.

I’m confident he will fill these two needs with more talented individuals. We didn’t lose a single recruit because of this.

Far from unheard of. A coach just left ECU today for Hampton.
