Also competition breeds success and solid depth.
The only thing better than a little competition is a lot of competition. - Coach Drink
Look, as stated above, we are absolutely loaded at RB, and no offense to DJ Williams, barring any injury, Cam Peoples may be better. The day Moose posted this guy as a commit a while back, I was slobbering over his high school tape. Nothing he has done in his 4 games this season has shocked me. In fact, I was sitting with a friend at the game last week and when Cam came in, I was in mid sentence talking about his breakaway speed on the edge as he broke off the long TD. The fact that this guy wasn’t heavily recruited is baffling to me. I think we are just scratching the surface with Cam, he can do a lot of things.
We talked about it earlier this season, but I see Evans being moved to more of a slot WR/H Back that can be moved around and find opportunities to get him in space. I think Cam starts with Harrington and Marcus playing as change of pace guys. I’m sure Drink is excited about this depth chart, and to quote George Costanza “I think it moved.”
The depth we have at RB and WR is staggering, I'm not disagreeing with the slot thing with Evans but keep him in the backfield as a primary back and he'll approach 2,000 yards rushing next season...just give him a small gap and the kid's gone. Keep Evans on kick-off returns also!
Right, you are not going away from him as an RB or return specialist, you are just designing your offense around his strengths. The reason why Evans is so successful is because of our Zone block scheme- it’s about creating gaps to run through. Where Evans is not successful is when teams scheme and succeed at closing those gaps. This is where I screamed for Satterfield to put MWjr in more because he is better at getting YAC. From what I have seen from Peoples, he is a lethal combination of both. You need that type of back that can control the clock.
I’ll give you an example of what I could see happen-
Evans plays more of that Heath role, lined up in the slot, available for jet sweeps and could be motioned into the backfield if a team goes nickel. You could run tunnel screens with him and shallow posts. What these plays do is force safeties to play closer to the box. When you see that, now you have Sutton and Virgil isolated and you can go over the top. Sutton is going to win a lot of those down field.
