Was CoCo on that team? If he was he would definitely be on that team. Guy was always clutch.appstatealum wrote: ↑Sat Dec 22, 2018 1:06 pmI think the Armanti led teams could play well, but they would struggle mightedly against our defense from the last few years. Not to bring it up again and stir everyone up, Taylor would be the weak Link for the modern era teams. Zac would shred Gilbert and Touchstone.
Here is who could start now or at least play significant minutes from the 07 squad-
Armanti
DJ Smith
Brian Quick
Henessee
LeGree
Kevin Richardson
Justin Woazeah (if not suspended)
Corey Lynch
Kilgore
Jabari Fletcher
Dexter would get time in the slot....
And......
Julian Rauch- I throw him in because the dude had ice water in his veins. That translates to any level of football.
But to reiterate, I do not think any of our FCS teams could come close to beating these modern era teams, but maybe an occasional upset on a blocked kick....

Yes, CoCo was on that team, and he was certainly clutch. Not sure if he would crack this lineup though.

All the guys that played in the NFL (bolded) would play on the 2016-2018 teams IMO. Although it might just be time, but i think Sutton/Hennigan might be better than college Quick, and Dexter would play 2016/17 but maybe not 2018 with Heath and Evans. Add in for me, Kerry Brown, and we'd find a way to get Pierre Banks in to split time with Akeem Davis-Gaither.appstatealum wrote: ↑Sat Dec 22, 2018 1:06 pmI think the Armanti led teams could play well, but they would struggle mightedly against our defense from the last few years. The other guys are all backups I think. However, you can't replace the leadership and determination the 07 team had.

Sutton is absolutely better than Quick. Quick was just a crazy good athlete, Sutton is a better route runner and has better technique.BallantyneApp wrote: ↑Sat Dec 22, 2018 5:22 pmAll the guys that played in the NFL (bolded) would play on the 2016-2018 teams IMO. That's why he was top of my list. He was ahead of his time. His small frame threw people off, he had a cannon arm and was tough as nails. I heard so many stories of how good he was at reading defenses and what a film nut he was. Very underrated.

So if you agree...then prior to '89, John Settle, Dino Hackett, any one else have any other names to throw out...never saw Hackett or Settle play, but would have to be convinced they were better football players than Armanti...so if Edward's wasnt the best player in Apps history then he is on a very, very, short listappstatealum wrote: ↑Sat Dec 22, 2018 9:34 pmThat's why he was top of my list. Sutton is as smooth as silk. The best best receiver we’ve had at app. Watch his routes there not comparable.appstatealum wrote: ↑Sat Dec 22, 2018 5:42 pmSutton is absolutely better than Quick. I can assure you i have not forgotten any Appalachian State football over the last 30 years.NewApp wrote: ↑Sat Dec 22, 2018 10:44 amHow quickly we forget the Armanti lead team.AppAlum1 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 21, 2018 3:02 pmWow! Look no further than the Mid.Tenn. message board's group hug-fest for App. State football. Compliments can be no better than those coming from opponents' fan base.
I especially appreciate their comments about the dirty play & late hits in the 2nd half. I noticed that too and found it appalling. It made me madder than a wet, setting hen at the time. But, the BEST part of such BS and lack of discipline on MT's part, is that App. State did not respond in kind. Although, sitting there in the stands, I must confess I sure wanted to see some responses in-kind. The fact is though, just pointing to the scoreboard is all that is necessary. I have not been so proud of a Mountaineer team before. Great job guys!
The 2018 App. State team was clearly the best team we have ever put on the field.
And, the future looks bright! Cannot wait for Sept. Go Apps!
Clearly, this 2018 team was better than any App team that has gone before. By far.

Better than Armanti??? Hackett and Settle were no doubt great and two of Apps best, but I would have a hard time believing they had better careers than Armanti

I would agree that Armanti had the best college career at App. As far as pros, it would likely be Dexter Coakley.

Re: Awww... They Miss Us.
No question, Armanti is the greatest. I've seen Hackett, Settle, and Coakley play during my tenure and Armanti led us to 4 conference championships, 2 national championships, a historic win over the 5th ranked Michigan Wolverines that put Boone on the map for many across the country and changed the rules for AP voters voting on FCS teams. He re-wrote the record books and was the most dynamic, fun-to-watch player I've ever personally witnessed at The Rock.
Hackett, Settle, Coakley and others were great but Armanti was the greatest.

Wow. That thread is basically pornography for an App fan.APPRIDE wrote: ↑Fri Dec 21, 2018 2:03 pmSlowly but surely, we are building a good rep as a worthy opponent, legit program in the eyes of other fan bases...
I saw the Toledo board comment the other day and thought it fit in well with this MTSU thread:

Re: Awww... They Miss Us.
The 2007 team had the intangibles that make a team great. And the two DEs. Would this year's team have beat that Michigan team? I think it might be a close comparison but comparing teams that cannot play each other is fruitless. ..... Remember Settle's run against Clemson that might have been 90 yards. Didn't score and the first half clock ran out. .... Bowl match ups. I think the country would like to see a mixture of P5 and non P5 schools. ASU vs Duke, GSU vs Duke, ford camp left. Games like that would draw interest. Might not draw interest from P5 schools that finished in the middle of their conference - they might not wish taking a chance on a beat down.
