National Championship vs Delaware
I gave myself a little present late this afternoon. I watched the Delaware national championship game. Oh what amazing memories. The names—DJ Smith, CoCo, Devon Moore, Kevin R, Dexter, Armanti, Kilgore, cardwell, Lynch,Banks, and on and on. I had chill bumps through the whole game. After the TD run by Trey Elder I got misty eyed just like that incredible night. I am 100% committed to our place in FBS, and I honestly believe we are capable of reaching incredible heights. But the crowd that night maybe was the the most electrifying ever. The beginning of the broadcast showed the huge line waiting all night at App ticket booth to get NC game tickets. I think we sometimes self aggrandize our attendance numbers but I truly believe we had close to 20,000 fans in Chattanooga that night. It was interesting watching Satt up in the booth. He was so young looking. No upper deck on the STATE side. No club level. On a side note, one of the commercials for “up and coming” products was for a flip phone. It’s amazing to look back at how much has changed in only 11 years. It was a night I’ll never forget. Here’s to many more in our future. Go Apps!

Finley Stadium = KBS West. I kidded a colleague who was a UTC grad that App had more wins in Finley than the Mocs did!wncapp78 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 25, 2018 8:15 pmI gave myself a little present late this afternoon. We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Re: National Championship vs Delaware
I remember the game was a blast. I also remember being a poor college student who between the four of us couldn’t afford a hotel room. Had to drive back to Boone after the game. Don’t know how we made it back alive.
Re: National Championship vs Delaware
Where did you see the replay? I recall the unwarranted arrogance of the (some)Delaware fans strolling through our tailgate area proclaiming the championship the afternoon prior to the game. What a nice warm feeling as I watched the deafening silence of the Delaware side of the field as the Mountaineers demonstrated their superiority over the Hens. My favorite of the back-to-back-to-!back.

Watched that game in my apartment at Mountaineer Village and after the game my roommate and I made a beeline for The Rock to get the goalpost, but the police were already there waiting and shooing everyone away
I just come for what peace I can find | The spirit ever lingers in a song | And the mountain's gonna sing this song for me |Rock me off to sleep

I remember sitting next to a Delaware fan at the game. As the night wore on, she got cold so I pulled the App sweatshirt I had tied around my waist and offered it to her. She just looked at me like I waswas crazy and politely declined

At least she politely declined. Many of their fans are anything but.

That game was a blast. Will always remember near the end when their player threw the ball into the crowd and hit the policeman, who took off after him. Also remember the trip back to Boone with thousands of Mountaineers holding three fingers out the window.

Re: National Championship vs Delaware
So, that following spring we were at Disney World and on the mono-rail headed to the Magic Kingdom and we were in a car with a family sporting Delaware shirts. I had my App gear on, of course, and there was a moment of awkwardness when no one said anything, then the college-aged kid said what a great quarterback we had and I thanked him and agreed (but didn't say anything about Flacco because our defense took care of him). Then the crusty-looking grandmother remarked, "well, I didn't like the way your fans came down to the field before the game was over." I was like, the fans came down to the field near the end of the fourth quarter...but the game was actually over in the second quarter..
Re: National Championship vs Delaware
Ah, yes. Delaware. I remember the rude fans. And, the slightly premature rush onto the field.
Yes, the game was over by the 2nd qtr., partly because Flacco was throwing darts and his receivers could not catch anything. The other part was because App was too good on the field that day.

Re: National Championship vs Delaware
A few things I remember from this game:
The App-State chants that could be heard on t.v. during video reviews.
Elder's touchdown.
Delaware's terrible fans.
Storming the field from the App sideline, accidentally tripping a fellow App fan coming in hot from the Delaware sideline.
Saving a girl that was knocked down from the stampede.
Attempting to talk to Joe Flacco knowing he was a likely first round pick (Not trash talk), his dad getting in my face and I had some choice words for him (Drunk college kid). Flacco turned around; I guess the altercation caught his attention. The cop that can be seen escorting Delaware's coach was the one that stepped in between his dad and myself. The cop was real chill, and said, "As a father, I can understand where he is coming from. Go enjoy the victory."
The after party at the hotel.
Trying Krystal burgers for the first time.

Re: National Championship vs Delaware
Those Krystal burgers would have been a welcome site after the NI Championship. Chatty was not prepared for the App crowd that first trip to KB West and there was nothing to eat after the game. They rolled the streets up long before the game ended. We ended up ordering pizza and having to wait almost 2 hours for them to bring it to the hotel. Chattanooga learned from that and it got a little better the next two trips

Re: National Championship vs Delaware
You are exactly right; Flacco was throwing darts. If his receivers had better hands it might have been a competitive game.AppAlum1 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 26, 2018 11:36 amAh, yes. Delaware. I remember the rude fans. And, the slightly premature rush onto the field.

Thinking back now to game one in Chatt after beating UNI. Gerald Adams walks up to me on the field and we have one of those conversations you remember to the grave. We had been through a lot together, the ups and the downs. I loved that guy. Still do.

The Delaware game is on YouTube. I couldn’t find the Richmond semifinals game. If anyone tech savvy could upload the 2007 Richmond game that would be cool.

Re: National Championship vs Delaware
Those three games were awesome:
2005===The awe of participating in the National Championship Game. Richie Williams coming in to start the second half. The strip sack and fumble return. So sweet! My brother and i made the round trip from Charlotte before and after the game.
2006---A competitive game with 4 Kevin Richardson TD's. The App offense coming up with a game clinching drive, late in the 4th quarter. Armanti Edwards magic.
2007---App fans owned Chattanooga and App State owned Delaware on the field. A route from beginning to end with the Elder run to cap it off. One big party from start to finish.

Re: National Championship vs Delaware
After 2005, I told my family that if App made it to Chattanooga in 2006 and there was a family Christmas gathering planned I would not be there. I was so pumped up and confident that in early September I bought two tickets and reserved my hotel room for the game.WASU 93 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 26, 2018 10:34 pmThose three games were awesome:

Same here. Fun times and wonderful memories!!!! And it was nice to hear conversations at work about the winningest football team in NC instead of the same ole ACC smoke.

Re: National Championship vs Delaware
I have all 3 on dvd with the season in reviews as well. I bought the sets after each year. Might binge on those before we go back to school.
