Re: Lance Ware to ASU
found this thread while researching him. Lots of speculation and uncertainty, but I would assume he would be more than a special asst to HC if hired. Sidenote: He played with Shawn clark at App state in the mid 90's.

Re: Lance Ware to ASU
His team won the 2AA state championship and is a top 20 team in the state. They went 13-3. What position is he gonna coach?

Re: Lance Ware to ASU
He played Oline at App but was DC at Shelby High when promoted to HC.
seems possible he could coach either the D-line or Rb's

Re: Lance Ware to ASU
If this is true I love this hire. Lance is a heck of a coach and by all accounts a great man as well. No, he doesn’t have P5 experience but this guy can flat out coach. As a former NC high school coach, Shelby is easily one of the top programs in the state regardless of classification. Lance is well respected among HS coaches. He will help us to continue to become the premier NC program. He’s a winner and bleeds Black & Gold. GO APPS!!

I remember Lance. I think he was freshman my senior year. He was the long snapper. Has been incredibly successful at Shelby. I don't think he would bolt for quite a while.

Re: Lance Ware to ASU
All time winningest high school program in NC. I believe he has coached the team to a state championship 5 out of last 6 years or close.
Took some heat years back because he switched Shelby’s offense from a wishbone triple option (which was very successful there for like 60 years) to the spread, and all it did was take Shelby to another level, maximizing their talent. I always heard he did it because he went to ASU and switched after App did. That and he got tired of sending players to Wofford.
His brother also went to App and I believe was a video guy for the football team. If this is true, this is a homerun hire & potentially the beginning of a very successful college coaching career for Lance.

Re: Lance Ware to ASU
Think Jalin & Chris Willis went to crest, but yes there are plenty of good recruits in Shelby. They had a 4 star LB last year that went to VT and a 3 star LB just committed to NCSU.

Re: Lance Ware to ASU
Great coach and great man/husband/father. My son played for him and won 3 state championships at Shelby High. Coach Ware has won 5 out of 6 state championships and gets the most out of his players! I hope it works out and this happens for Lance. I always thought he’d come back to App - I just thought it would be with Satterfield and Ivey here since they were teammates. But everything happens at the right time. Shelby will miss him but fingers crossed this works out for him. If not, we’ll be glad to keep him at SHS!

Jalin actually did go one year to Shelby before landing at Crest. He and I had a fun conversation about the differences between the two schools at last year's Legends gala.
