Is it my imagination or is the conference trying to build a rivalry between App and Troy? Think football schedule.

No doubt! If nothing else, it's a good odds for building a little drama into the tail end of the regular season. Look at the last few seasons' conference standings: 2016: App #1, Troy #3. 2017: Troy #1, App #2. 2018: App #1, Troy #2 (both in the East and overall). Considering the other top team in the East is GaSo, and that rivalry is baked in (so they're stoking GaSt/GaSo), positioning App/Troy to be a de facto divisional championship makes good sense.

I'll say this: If we beat one (or both) Carolinas, Drink will have something in his first year that Satt could never quite deliver: P5 scalps.
I get that for the coaching staff and players (and for many fans), it's hard to go into a season saying that anything other than a conference win is the goal, but I find it really easy to say that I'd be willing to trade our 2016 conference win for beating UT, or our 2018 conference win for beating Penn State. I'd maybe trade 2017 for beating Wake, but in the scheme of things, I think beating even a comparatively weak Tarheels or Gamecocks team would be more satisfying than beating even a relatively strong Wake team.
Not that any of this really matters. Wins are neither mutually exclusive nor guaranteed. But with the talent we have, I'm hoping for 12-2+.

The first scenario is kind of a Western Michigan deal but I like our current track which seems closer to Boise State. Maybe??Yosef84 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2019 6:06 amIt would be hard to pass on an undefeated season ending with NY6 win, but if that were followed by 5 straight luke warm seasons (by App standards) the momentum would be lost. If at least some conference championships and NO bowls were mixed in App would be propelled to the upper echelon of the G5 in the conversation with Boise State, UCF and Houston.
