How will it help us exactly? How has beating two so-so P5 teams and making a NY6 in 2016 helped Western Michigan?AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Wed Feb 20, 2019 5:42 pmYou start with the premise that we go 10-2. I know our goals are to win SBC and bowl. I have repeatedly stated our "additional" goals should now be make NY6 and win it. It is a guarantee that two losses will absolutely eliminate us from making the NY6, probably one loss therefore in your scenario we would not be considered for the NY6. With that assumption I would take winning against both Carolinas vs SBC due to AppStFan1's summary. The ACC and SEC wins will help us in the longer term more than SBC #4. Also, in this scenario you can't rule out that both UNC and USC may even be top 25 teams and that would mean we beat one or two top 25 teams in one season therefore definitely giving us more credibility than SBC.

If there will ever be a year that APP can beat The Holes, it's 2019. They are coming off a 2-9 type season, and we are peaking. We sure better win or shut up whining, because this year is our chance. It'll do our in state recruiting a favor in the short run, better than winning another Sun Belt that only us APP fans care about. Beating the 2 Carolina programs in the same year will open up some eyes and ears of quality recruits that would previously not have given APP consideration.

I feel like we should focus on the important things. Things like inflatable helmets and ice. Mo Bamba. Sustainability. Trust fund hippies. Cholera. Denuclearization. When did we lose our focus? Let us unite and proclaim Jerry Moore Stadium should be an open container haven filled with piles of ice... and both teams should have their own inflatable hardee's helmet out of fairness. And.... the games should be free to attend. MArk Ricks should foot the bill.

I mean I get what you’re saying; they weren’t able to sustain it when their coach left. But having even one year like that is the stuff of dreams for programs like us.
We have a lot more tradition than Western Michigan, so hopefully if we ever do reach that level we won’t fall off as fast, even when our coach bolts.

If I my druthers, I would take the two P 5 wins as long as the games lost were the ones played the week before the P 5 games.

Re: 2019 would you rather
I can't argue with the idea that beating UNC/South Carolina would give us a lot of local lift both in fan support and recruiting. The comparison with WMU is a good question, but I don't think they had the reputation built and sustained prior to that season, nor did they maintain that level afterwards. People have short memories so the benefit has an expiration date if you don't continue the winning ways.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Wed Feb 20, 2019 10:06 pmBecause they had an amazing season and got to go to the Cotton Bowl?AppSt94 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 20, 2019 6:50 pmHow will it help us exactly? Re: 2019 would you rather
Continuing the winning tradition is all about getting the right hire. We haven’t played a down in 2019, but I like our head coach and staff hires. We know we have the best talent overall and they have complimented it with our best signing class overall. They just need to continue connecting the dots in preparation and on the field. If Drink has success, I’m sure another higher profile opportunity awaits him. Then it’ll be all about hiring his replacement. The head coach is where the buck stops.

Re: 2019 would you rather
For me, in any other year, I would likely take the conference championship option. However, considering who our boys are lining up against in 2019, I want the A5 (please stop referring to either Carolina as Power) wins!
I have family and friends who are fans of both. All I've heard since these games were announced is how this is a "no-win" situation for their sub-mediocre football programs. I hope our boys show up and show out to prove that it is in fact, no wins for them! Write the check, take the azz whoopin' and thank App fans for helping fill their stadiums (not that UScar fans need help in Williams-Brice). I want Drink to run the score up on the University of AFAM.

I want us to beat UNC and USC and like Dabo Sweeney said after the CFP Championship game “Leave no doubt” who is the best team.

Oh and beat ETSU and leave no doubt!

Re: 2019 would you rather
Predicting the Carolina games is almost impossible at this point, even more so than normal predictions which are guesses in the first place. There are too many variables for both UNC and App. South Carolina is always a crap shoot because you never know which team will show up. I don't generally make predictions but I will just say that I believe we are capable of beating both teams. I hope we do it.

Re: 2019 would you rather
Would you take a 13-0 season that culminates in the NY6 Bowl in return for 8-4 seasons each of the next 5 years (each ending with Cameila Bowls)? Assume that is the only option.
Or would you rather average 10 or more wins for the next 6 seasons? I will take that consistency- kind of like what we currently experience.

Re: 2019 would you rather
Throw that in with the first scenario. Run the table in the regular season and win the NY6 versus a string of 8-4 seasons with at least 4 of which include losses to Stink and zero Conference Championships.AppinVA wrote: ↑Sun Mar 03, 2019 9:26 pmDo we win the NY6 bowl?bigdaddyg wrote: ↑Sun Mar 03, 2019 7:29 pmWould you take a 13-0 season that culminates in the NY6 Bowl in return for 8-4 seasons each of the next 5 years (each ending with Cameila Bowls)? Re: 2019 would you rather
It would be hard to pass on an undefeated season ending with NY6 win, but if that were followed by 5 straight luke warm seasons (by App standards) the momentum would be lost. If at least some conference championships and NO bowls were mixed in App would be propelled to the upper echelon of the G5 in the conversation with Boise State, UCF and Houston.
