Gordon's Fisherman Logo and App-Ah-Lay-Chun
Gordon's Fisherman Logo and App-Ah-Lay-Chun
I'm glad I can't see or hear until I look at the replay but I hope the #SunBelt and #AppStateSports has or will do everything in their power to make sure the announcers know the pronunciation and the timeout leadins do not have the Fisherman for our logo.
I say this only to say....it's happened all season and we deserve better.

Gordon's Fisherman is funny a heck, but that is a good description.

I gotta say, the old-school Yosef is tired. I like the strutting/angry Yoset. Kinda like the one they use at Mountaineer Mania

The thing about Brand identity is once you have one that's pretty good, you keep it.
You don't change it anymore other than tweeking it.

Re: Gordon's Fisherman Logo and App-Ah-Lay-Chun
They issue out the media guide notes and the pronunciation of App State is listed clear as day...the problem is no one ever reads anything all the way through

Given our recent football success, there is absolutely no reason for anyone to mispronounce our school's name. Sometimes I think it's intentional and condescending.

Re: Gordon's Fisherman Logo and App-Ah-Lay-Chun
Obviously you have traveled across our country very much. The vast majority of this country pronounces Appalachian the way you don't like it. They have been raised to pronounce it that way and I assure you that when they say it that way it is not to throw shade at our university but rather a natural instinct. I know our name is our name and we have a right to dictate how it is pronounced, BUT, most of them believe they are saying it correctly and wouldn't even know you are offended.
I say get over it and don't make something out of nothing.

ESPN pronounces it correctly and most of tv and print media does now....I politely corrected a northern transplant at Myrtle Beach this weekend...BUT he saw the block A on my jacked and spoke first....so that was pretty cool.

The way we pronounce it is actually the forth most used pronunciation. I read that in the Random House Second Edition Unabridged Dictionary Circa 1987.

The way we pronounce it is the way people who live in the Appalachian region pronounce it. I've lived here all my life. Never heard a native mispronounce it. And yes, I have traveled all over the country; not that it matters.

The way we pronounce is the only proper way to pronounce it. It's an easy word to butcher though.

Re: Gordon's Fisherman Logo and App-Ah-Lay-Chun
I was once on a train platform in Rome and watched two other Americans get really worked up because they couldn't find their train on the big timetable board. They were going to Florence, but couldn't find it listed anywhere - because of course Italians say and spell that city as Firenze.AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Fri Feb 08, 2019 1:45 pmObviously you have traveled across our country very much. Sometimes different languages or dialects or accents pronounce place names differently. It's not (usually at least) intended as a slight, it's just different. And while it can be funny to hear, we should not take offense. But like the Americans on the Roman train platform, saying a place name differently than the locals does peg you as being an outsider.

I actually got a tattoo with that logo as inspiration the weekend of the conference championship game. Not sure how to upload an image locally to a post so I made it my avatar. Please don't roast. Long time lurker, new poster!
