Re: Black Thursday
Por que no los dos?
Personally, I hope to see a lot of black costumes. Lots of Darth Vaders, Batmen, grim reapers, Scream killers, etc.
I vividly remember the Texas-Texas Tech game the day after our Halloween decimation of Wofford. There was a group of probably 15-20 Tech students who were wearing red and black with their faces painted like The Joker from The Dark Knight. It would be awesome if we did something like that.

Re: Black Thursday
Already been posted once, but if you’re painting up for this game make sure the paint goes no higher than your neck. FACES must be unpainted on BLACK Saturday. We don’t need that kind of attention.

Re: Black Thursday
We're agreed here, unless its "tasteful", like Lawrence Olivier:

WARNING: Above is a joke, no one should paint their face, even if its tasteful.

Re: Black Thursday
I saw photos of those catholic school boys from the DC incident painted black (torso, arms, face) for a basketball game and it was used (rightly or wrongly) as evidence of their racism.
In 2019 white people are not allowed to have black paint on their faces. Context doesn’t matter anymore.

Re: Black Thursday
You’re not telling the whole story. The students outlined their mouths and eyes with what appears to be white or pink and they look EXACTLY like minstrel performers from the 19th century. This isn’t hard, man.Gonzo wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2019 11:57 amI saw photos of those catholic school boys from the DC incident painted black (torso, arms, face) for a basketball game and it was used (rightly or wrongly) as evidence of their racism.

Re: Black Thursday
I saw the same photo. Googled it before I posted to be sure. Only one of them has white accents.
Paint up black for the game including your face and make sure you’re on TV if you’re so confident. On second thought, please don’t.

Re: Black Thursday
I'm saying there has never been a more important time to be abundantly cautious about racial sensitivity. I could easily see a photo of some of our students wearing black paint on their face being used in a way that makes us look very bad, even if it was innocent participation in Black Thursday. People see what they want to see. Don't forget I wasn't the first person to make that suggestion in this thread. It's just not worth the risk.

Re: Black Thursday
The Covington kids were front row at a basketball game screaming at the only black kid on the court while wearing minstrel style black face. Context certainly matters.Gonzo wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2019 2:24 pmI'm saying there has never been a more important time to be abundantly cautious about racial sensitivity. Re: Black Thursday
Gonzo, I completely agree. Point taken. My only point is that certain costumes are clearly not race related but people really do need to use good sense and that seems to be asking a lot sometimes.Gonzo wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2019 2:24 pmI'm saying there has never been a more important time to be abundantly cautious about racial sensitivity. Re: Black Thursday
Make sure not to wear orange face, either. People are triggered more by that than black face.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2019 2:35 pmGonzo, I completely agree. Point taken. Re: Black Thursday
It is a shame that we have to make a PSA about where and how to apply body paint.
