Anyone know what happened to Linebacker Jay Person? He was one of our higher rated signees from the 2018 class and I noticed he’s not listed on the online roster.

Don’t know yet and because he was to far down the depth chart.

Some of us care about our players, staff, et. al. even after they've left. Note how many posts have been made about Scott Satterfield and the assistants as well as players he took with him.

"Entered the portal" means he intends to transfer but has not chosen a destination yet.

And Satterfield did not take any App players with him to Louisville.

I didn't know that, but it was said on this board that some potential recruits or actual roster players were going. Guess it didn't happen.

His assistants leaving to join him at Louisville was distressing enough. Just so everybody is happy in their chosen places is redemption enough.
Thanks for the clarification, EastHall.

One recruit flipped from App to Louisville. No players from our roster, at least so far.

What people on this board thought *might* happen is another matter entirely.

There are still App fans who will swear that Sparky Woods "took half of the Mountaineer roster" with him to USC in '88. In fact, only three players actually transferred there; only two ever played in a Gamecock game; and only one ever started. Sometimes, App conspiracy stories die slow deaths...but they do eventually get exposed by the facts.

And Sparky did not ask them to come with him. They left on their own. Some think Sparky actually tried to poach our roster and that did not happen.

I wish him well but he could not get on the field at App and appears that he just wants to play. Hopefully he will be happy at his new place.

There was way too much interest in those who left for Louisville. If someone leaves then they don't really want to be here and nothing can be done about it. We will take the field with who we will take the field with. Does it sting to lose guys? Sure. We can't do anything about it but wish them well.

Take a look at all of the names on this transfer portal.

https://247sports.com/college/appalachi ... ferPortal/

Peyton Derrick- Was going to be 3rd string and struggled. He goes to Wofford to play at a level I thought he was probably better at anyway. I wish him well and I'm not trashing him but I think he is going to be at the level he belongs and should do well for Wofford.

Braden Collins- We have so much depth that he could not get on the field. He wants to go where he can play and I don't blame him.

Mock Adams- Has had a lot of injuries. Just was not going to play and I thought he may retire anyway.

Jay Person- Could not get on the field and he wants to play. I don't blame him.

Keaton Forbes- When you sign a big time LS I don't blame this kid for going. Drink was likely going to play the other kid.

All of these are good since they can go play elsewhere and be happy and we have scholarships freed up to possibly go sign 20-25 guys in the 2020 class. We have not had anyone who really played or was a standout leave and that is good to see. I do wish all of these guys well and hope they are happy in their new place.

You're going to have kids transfer out (and transfer in) and flip (both away and to us) on verbal commitments...it's the nature of the beast. We're not seeing any kind of mass transfer activity going on and the more I see and hear Coach Drink, the more I'm convinced he's our guy. Granted he hasn't coached a single game for us yet but it sure feels like he's going to move the program onward and upward.

Other than Collins you are correct. He was a #2 receiver on the outside so he would have seen the field. He just would not have played much behind Hennigan and Sutton.

Also, while we didn’t lose anyone that we counted on, we still lost depth. In particular Collins’ departure creates some issues should Hennigan or Sutton go down.

Braden Collins would have seen significant playing time. Not a starter but a contributor. With him and Mock Adams looking elsewhere, our depth at wideout has gotten scary thin.

He encouraged them to come to USC. The ones who left would have added much depth to our roster even though JM pretty much brought in a new scheme. That is not a conspiracy theory. Anyway, he got his just deserts. Got canned. Sure there's more to that story itself, but point being he didn't last long in the Bigs. Served most of his sentence at VM1.

Are we sure Collins is officially transferring? He’s still listed on the roster while Person is not. Sometimes these guys will enter their name and reconsider.
