Re: New 4 game series with Charlotte
Well, I’m excited to see this rivalry grow now. Doug did great with getting this set up!
Now if only we can get a home & home with NC State now...

Love this series, it's an easy away game to get to and local grads around to talk trash to. Hope they're still FBS at that point!! LOL

Can we change the thread title to the correct name of that university?

I'm torn; I hope they build a decent program by then so that the games won't be a snooze fest, but I also don't want them to build a decent program because of recruiting. Hopefully we'll have taken the next step in conferences by then so it'll be a non-issue.

Re: New 4 game series with Charlotte
Equally important to their getting better is that we don’t slide back. Which is entirely possible.ArmantiWaterSafety wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2019 10:04 amI'm torn; I hope they build a decent program by then so that the games won't be a snooze fest, but I also don't want them to build a decent program because of recruiting. Re: New 4 game series with Charlotte
This is a natural, fun for office ribbing and a very inexpensive series.
Great for fans for travel
Team and support travel by bus save time and $
Great for NC media coverage of our program
Great for regional recruiting
Ability to play seven games in NC
Healy will build a program there. In a couple of years they will be in top half of conference. They have a much better upside than GaState.

It's not a matter of really being "excited" but this series makes sense.

I don’t really understand how they have “more upside” than Georgia State. They ARE Georgia State but in a smaller market (ATL vs CLT is no comparison) and they’re not even in uptown Charlotte.HighlandsApp wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2019 11:06 amThis is a natural, fun for office ribbing and a very inexpensive series.

Great summary. While not exciting, this series is good for us for the reasons stated above.HighlandsApp wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2019 11:06 amThis is a natural, fun for office ribbing and a very inexpensive series.

Re: New 4 game series with Charlotte
This is a great series because they're a peer-level G5 team situated right in the middle of our largest concentration of App Alumni and will garner great local media attention. We can't have all 4 non-conference games against the Wisconsins and Clemsons of the world. As mentioned above, fun for our fans, and a low cost road game. In 5 to 10 years this could develop into a nice little rivalry.

Actually we are in uptown Charlotte. Next time we play on our campus you can hop on the Light Rail next to this building and ride it to the football stadium. (And thank goodness we are not Atlanta!)

Re: New 4 game series with Charlotte
I’ve been in that building for a conference, actually, but having one building in the city does not mean UNCC is located in uptown Charlotte. University City is as much a part of Charlotte as Pineville is. It’s not.

They actually have a captive on campus student base in dorms and apartments. I think that they have a more traditional campus life than Georgia State. They are also the only major football in town.

Re: New 4 game series with Charlotte
They actually don't. I know that their alumni will practically throw tantrums claiming they aren't a commuter school anymore, but they're not telling the truth. Here are the numbers (according to US News):HighlandsApp wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2019 2:26 pm

UNCC undergrad student population is 23,914. 24% live on-campus and 76% live off-campus. Thus they have 5,739 students living on campus. https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/unc-charlotte-2975
Georgia State, meanwhile has an undergrad student body of 25,970 with 22% living on-campus and 78% off-campus for a total of 5,713 students on campus. Only 20 less than UNCC. https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/ge ... rsity-1574
I'm sick of all the myths about Charlotte's "potential". They are nothing but Georgia State with a crappier basketball program.
