Nice post and blast from the past. Richie Melchor and Anthony Downs had a huge game. Announcer calling us Appy State and Mounties while complaining about the field conditions the whole game was so Georgia Southern....

I may be misremembering but I thought the temperature was single digits. Either way it was cold!

I still have the same seats too. I remember it being wickedly cold and the seeing some of the most vicious hits in that game. Really smash mouth football!

I too was at the game with my dad! Although an NC State grad, the very mention of going to a game was all that was needed for us to be on our way! He was without question the greatest game watcher of all time. No one could watch a game like him. He's been gone since Feb, 1988. This was the last game he saw. MAN, what a memory, Thanks for posting it!

The seats had been swept off however that just put the snow and ice into the aisles between the rows of seats. Your feet were literally "on ice" the entire time.

Maybe they'd that the snow swept off, but where I was sitting there was a solid sheet of ice on those aluminum seats. This was undoubtedly the coldest I have ever been in my life. There may have been colder days or games since then, but thankfully clothing technology has vastly improved since this game. Back then, it was a different story. But I stayed to the end because seeing us shut them down like that was too good to pass up.

Is this not the game where Erk Russell wore shorts during the 1st half AND our fine student body wrote him a love note in the snow on the horseshoe end? "Will they score?" is all it said.

I have not watched the video completely yet; but, for those who have, are there any shots of that message?

I was there, too, but don't recall as much as you guys do, but the only thing that got cold was my face as I was in double and triple layers, but left my baklava at home.
Fuller, the QB later went with Sparky to USC.

If you haven't been to the Reddit thread about this and read the comments then you are truely missing out

The dude in blue is definitely anti-ASU. Delano is of course, a GSU grad. The guy in blue said this was the first time ASU had reached that far and stupidly (maybe joking, who knows?) said it was the first time they had played in the snow for a football game. App had many November games with snow or sleet.

I think the guy was being sarcastic about playing in the snow while keeping a straight face. It was only our second time in the playoffs and the first time App had made it to the second round of playoffs while GSU had just won back to back I-AA playoffs the two previous years. They were the big boys of I-AA playoffs at that point and we were trying to take them down, which we did.

That was the coldest game I have ever been to at App.

Some things never change...

-It’s always great to beat those inbred morons.

-The rednecks always have plenty of excuses baked in when we beat them.

-Our football program has been/is/and always will be superior to the iggles.

GTH iggles

GO APPS!!

I didn't think anyone old enough to have attended that game as an adult/young adult knew what reddit was.

Are old people on reddit?

I guess I have a better reason not to use it.

I saw this posted on Twitter and I thought I’d share:

Side story on this video. The ABC play by play is Rich Brenner. I am honored to have known him. Rich was a USMC Vet, was well known within the sports world due to his numerous years broadcasting games and working with Fox 8 in High Point. Sadly, Rich passed away in 2012. I can't believe it has been 7 years.

I work with Rich's wife. I shared this video with her and her reaction was priceless. She has been collecting old broadcasts of Rich to share with the family. She did not have this one but remembers this game vividly. She was very thankful to have this video and be able to add it to the broadcast collection. Thanks for the original post!!!
