Troy transfers

Unread post by Apple@chin1 » Sun Jun 02, 2019 8:14 am

It appears that Troy may not be as big of a threat in 2019 as many believed they’d be. They’re dropping starters like flies in LA (lower Alabama).

Wow, 4 starters are transferring from Troy. Feeling blessed that we are not in that situation and the more I hear Drink speak the more excited I get about our future.

They will still be a tough opponent.

Looks like the coaching transition in Troy will not be seamless, but they will definitely still be tough. Some of these returning starters might be transferring because they were in danger of losing playing time. You never know.

Serious question; is this a serious reply? I see it a lot and know it is meant seriously at times. Is this one of those times or was it meant sarcastically?

I assume the "Beat ETSU" posts are generally somewhat tongue in cheek. Although they are certainly based in the "one game at a time" concept, I think they generally signal fatigue with the off-season and with off-season topics of discussion.

I guess I should let the actual posters speak for themselves but that's how I have been reading them.

There are some on here that feel that this team has the best chance of knocking off both P5 on the schedule and running the table on the Sun Belt. Even though neither has ever happened. The Beat ETSU tag is a bit tongue in cheek, but it is more of a reality check that we can't entertain 12-0 unless we go 1-0.

I’d assume that it’s a serious reply. He’s only posted the same thing 12 times since the end of the 2018 season. He must think that they’re the only team on our schedule. And, definitely the only game any of us should be discussing.

It is the most important game on the schedule because it is the next game on the schedule. Can you imagine the fallout on this board if we somehow come out of the gate and lose this game?

I'll leave it up to the coaches to keep the players concentrated on ETSU.

As a fan, I'll speculate on ten thousand different things, of which I control the outcome of none of them.

The irony, of course, is that even the coaches and players won’t start planning for ETSU until 7-10 days before the game.

While I understand the general idea behind not looking past an opponent:
1) this is a fan message board. What the hell else do we have to do, especially this time of year
2) I would agree if there were coaches talking about this stuff, but something tells me half the stuff we talk about hasn’t even crossed their mind, let alone focus on that as opposed to ETSU or any other team on our schedule.
3) this thread is about Troy transfers. How is us talking about people transferring out of Troy in any way affect the outcome of any game , much less the ETSU game??

I get a chuckle every time someone admonishes another poster for looking past an opponent.

I said that in a previous thread. Go look at the transfer portal on 24/7 sports. I have gone from feeling that game should be 50/50 to feeling like we should definitely win that game. They have had 4 very good players leave and now aren't 2-deep at QB. If their starter goes down they have a big question mark there now. I feel like the momentum has shifted back to us where we should get the win. I am still concerned though because it is a revenge game for them at home on TV. As long as we come in mentally ready we should win though. They definitely aren't the same team I thought in November could perhaps end up in the top 25 in 2019.

With that said, the bullseye is on our backs and we can't overlook anyone. I hope our entire team is 100% focused on ETSU right now with some assistant coaches working on UNC a little early. I'm not big on playing SoCon schools anymore unless we just need a home game and want to make sure we send their champ back home with a 40-50 point loss.

Perhaps someone should start a “beat ETSU” thread so that we can generate 50 pages of ridiculous comments directed initially at that game, shift over to favorite sodas and restaurants, then to political comments and finally back to that game.

I think we have some very knowledgeable folks on this board most of which live in the real world. We FULLY understand that it will be incredibly difficult to run the table next year but dang can’t we talk about it? None of us have a single ounce of impact on a single game. We also FULLY realize that THE most important game next year is the ETSU game, followed by the next game.

ETSU is a big game. To me the next game is always the biggest. Have to just take it one game at a time and not focus on the polls. Hopefully the team feels this way. It would be great to not see people post guessing on where and when we would be ranked. If I was told we can go 13-0 but can't be ranked I would rather go 13-0 for sure. To me the rankings will take care of themselves and the only one that matters is the final one after the CFP NC.

I would venture to say that TODAY and probably until late in fall camp the team is focusing on fundamentals & conditioning (just get generally better and stronger) and learning new coaching terminology & new playbook (educate themselves on any net new information/processes). I don't think they are doing anything specific to any opponent at this time including ETSU.

Truth is, those items listed above are a higher priority for our players for the next 70-80 days, not thinking about beat ETSU.

I really do understand the concept of "the next game is the biggest." That being said, even from a player / team perspective I'm not sure that concept has to be applied over the summer. I can't imagine many things more de-motivating to our guys that trying to focus solely on ETSU for the entire off-season. I absolutely hope that for the 7 - 10 days leading up to the game, that is their focus and they take it seriously.

This and the previous post by AtlAppMan are absolutely true. The idea that the team would spend nine months game planning for anyone, let alone ETSU, should be laughable on its face.

I'd actually go a step further and say the "next game is the biggest" line doesn't really make sense. Sometimes fans struggle to discern between motivational tactics and reality.
