I disagree with your car analogy as it applied to Satt. I think Satt got the keys to a Jeep. It broke down the very first year (4-8). Total lemon. 2014 looked like another disaster but he finally got the engine rebuilt. Thanks to Coach Brown he eventually turned it into a monster truck.

Unpopular opinion: We were one year late saying goodbye to Coach Moore.

It’s been said many times. Drink has been handed the keys to a Ferrari (or whatever sweet car you choose)- don’t wreck it. Satt was given the keys to Mercedes- strong and dependable with plenty of miles left. He didn’t really speed but was a very cautious driver. I agree, no fantastic wins and a few very disappointing losses. App is a program that should crank out 8 wins in any year no matter what.
I mean... somebody must have built the Ferrari, right?
Yes the coaches who recruited the players. Don’t get me wrong, Satt did a great job and I hated to see him go but his staff did the heavy lifting by bringing in the players.

Good added analogy. I like that.

Tee Sims was the best DLineman App had since Murrell and Hunter ten years previous.

I'll be rooting like hell for Louisville and believe Satterfield can win there if given time.

Love Tee Sims, but that title belongs to Ronald Blair. Dude was a monster that no one could stop. Loved watching Blair. GO APPS!!

Not at RB, and not at QB in a game since then. ECU was gassed and Cadet brought something they didn't expect or plan for.

Not really a comment suited for this thread but that game was crazy. I sat smack dab in the middle of nothing but ECU fans on the 50 probably 10 rows behind our bench. I’ll bet 10 or more Pirates had to be taken off the field due to cramps. I kept watching our sideline figuring it was only a matter of time but our boys didn’t wilt. I listened to all the crap in the first half as ECU ran up and down the field and dominated us on the stat sheet. It was stunned silence in my section (except for me) for that last quarter or so as we stormed back. What might have been- damn lawnmower

I was behind ECU's bench that day in a sea of Purple screaming my head off with my son and nephew. Leaving the stadium that day was tough because we could not pull off the upset in the last drive but having ECU fans come up to me shaking my hand and stating we should have won put a little pep in my step.

It’s probably true this is overall unpopular, but I’ve seen a surprising number of people express a similar view.

It’s kind of curious considering Satt’s last team was his best (despite heavy losses from the previous team that had many predicting a semi-rebuilding year). Also considering that his last, best team was his first with a full FBS roster.

We had UT, WFU, and PSU beaten and Satt managed us out of three P5 wins in as many years. There was definitely a glass ceiling that he just couldn’t crack despite winning just about everything he touched at the G5 level.

Drink will beat a P5.

Satt’s clock management against UT was indeed poor. But I thought he improved in that area. We actually managed the last two minutes perfectly against Wake, we just couldn’t make a routine kick. Penn State was probably somewhere in between.

We were also a 2-3 score underdog against both UT and PSU, so if we’re faulting Satt for in-game management, let’s also credit him for building and preparing a team that could punch above its weight.

We have no idea what kind of game manager Drink will be. Hopefully he’s a natural and has no learning curve. I obviously hope we beat both Carolinas, but we should acknowledge that, other than Wake, the P5s Satt faced were on a different level than the ones we’ll play this year. I think we’d have had a solid chance to beat at least one regardless of who our HC is.

True that his teams got better every year, but every year we had to rely on other teams to choke to win/share the conference title. We often had a hard time finishing games, as Gonzo noted, P5 wins were within our grasp and couldn’t close. Several other conference games were lost by close margins due to in my opinion, conservative play calling and relying on our defense to make stops. More times than not, this worked, but it seems like we played not to lose instead of playing to win, and that’s what kept us from getting over the hump, again in my opinion
