ETSU picks up Miami QB

Unread post by appchicago » Wed Jun 05, 2019 7:35 am

Saw this on Reddit. One guy does not a program make, but a reminder not to look past any opponent. Plus ETSU was already solid.

When considering attrition at the QB position, a near certainty given the number of players who are in “play now” time of their career, Weldon was the prime candidate to leave. Weldon would have had a hard time passing one of the Tate Martell, N’Kosi Perry, Jarren Williams trio, let alone all three. He was buried in the depth chart. (SBNation)

Was recruited by the past coach, and in all reality would have never seen the field again in Miami. Don't really know how good he is. But I don't know if he got any P5 interest once he entered the transfer portal.

The kid has apparently been looking for a new team since mid-March. Ohio St, Clemson and Alabama didn't have a slot, so he settled for the ET Bucs. ;)

They aren't even Top 25 in FCS. They are on solid footing foundationally but they aren't there yet. I don't expect a Gardner-Webb type game but it shouldn't be within 40 points.

This is coming from a fans perspective of course. If I were a player this game would be treated the same as the Conference Championship game. If the goal is NY6, every game matters.

They did make the FCS Playoffs last year and Randy Sanders is an up and coming coach for sure. I believe Cade Weldon is Casey Weldon's son. Of FSU fame in the early 90's

ETSU got a QB transfer from Temple earlier (Logan Marchi) so they will be deep at that position if this is true. I can't find anything specifying a destination. I'm sure they are both excellent quarterbacks, but neither seems to be super scary. Both are listed as pro-style QBs. It would make me more nervous if he were a stud dual threat (seems to be more of a weakness for us). A pro-style QB without a stud WR corps isn't particularly threatening. I think our D will be in his face all day....whichever is playing.

Edit: Just realized Marchi transferred last year. He didn't start in 2018 so not a huge factor anyway.

Why, just why are some of you afraid of ETSU? Our team is supposed to have the best seasons ever. I realize Any Given Saturday, but if ETSU beats us, it's going to be one of the longest seasons ever instead of one to remember. This should be a name your score game for Drink.
The other half of us are thinking a Top 20 Ranking at some point.

Where, in this thread, does anyone appear to be afraid of ETSU?

Oh, okay. Cool. I thought this was a board where we talked about App football, including upcoming opponents.

I’ll only post about the rosters of teams I’m afraid of from now on.

Thanks for setting me straight.

He was a three star recruit out of college, redshirted then this past season saw very few snaps. I'm not worried.

ETSU finished ranked last year: http://www.fcs.football/cfb/polls.asp?div=fcs

They should be in the top 20 preseason. While I don't think it is acceptable to lose to ETSU I feel like we have to still take every game seriously and if we do we should go 11-1 or 12-0. The moral of the Michigan game was that arrogance will bite you in the butt so we must not be arrogant.

We must treat every game like a big game. We could beat ETSU by 50 or by just 20. You never know. I'm hoping this is a 63-3 type game but the team better not overlook them.

Don't ever use stars as an argument for or against a player. Dexter Coakley- 0 stars, Brian Quick- 0 stars, DJ Smith- 0 stars, Armanti Edwards- 2 stars, etc. There are some great players who end up going in the top 100 picks or become NFL stars who were 0, 2, or 3 stars. Just about every P5 recruit automatically gets 3 stars at least.
