Re: Predict Your Breakout Player for the 2019 Season
I predict a re-breakout of Hennigan. He had an outstanding season as a true freshman, but Sutton was ZT's go to guy last year. I think the combo of more teams focusing of Sutton and Drink passing more, Hennigan is going to get a lot more touches next year.

Love this. Guys that can run 4-8 yard routes could do very well this year.

I will go with Hennigan also. There were games last year when I wondered if he was even on the field. He needs touches and should easily be a 5 catch per game guy. Hard to argue against Peoples as well. Weapons galore next season.

I still think about that sick one-handed sideline reception he made against Wake Forest his Freshman year. He's a natural athlete and we definitely need to get the ball headed his way more often and let him make some plays.

Re: Predict Your Breakout Player for the 2019 Season
Good point Stonewall....Probably one of the biggest position player unknowns for 2019.... We have 2 kickers and 2 punters. Staton and Howell probably have the biggest legs. So my guess is one of them... Not a fan of having a specialist with multiple duties...Hope we get a walk-on that can just crush it out of the end zone every time.
Kickers
Chandler Staton
John Gliarmis
Punters
Clayton Howell
Xavier Subotsch
GIVE 'EM HELL APPS!

Re: Predict Your Breakout Player for the 2019 Season
It isn't unprecedented for that to happen. My point in trying to advocate for the kid is that there seems to be a hangover of excitement from Steph Brown rendering what would usually be unabated excitement into cautious speculation that he may not be all that he seems. It could also be that everyone is looking at his Senior statistics instead of his measurables, watching his film, and understanding football? Perhaps there is an assumption he isn't of the Blue Collar mentality of quarterbacks past?WeirdAl wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2019 12:40 pmAbsolutely nothing wrong with being excited about DBG. He's the highest rated prospect we've ever had and has tremendous upside. I think he'll be the second string QB coming out of fall camp. I just don't think he belongs in the breakout category yet.ericsaid wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2019 10:37 amI'm still not sure what's wrong with being excited about the guy. He's easily one of the best looking QB's, on tape, App has had commit in some time, if not ever. 6'4, can really spin the ball, the ball carries deep, he moves well, has good vision, and appears to be willing to work. I'd imagine that if he is as cerebral as the natural ability he has, everyone will be pleasantly surprised.'Black Saturday wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2019 3:38 pmPeoples
o yea, could be the new QB we signed from IMG.
In otherwords, he appears to be an ideal QB for Drinks system when you compare him to Finley and Rypien; each of whom are in the NFL at this moment.
Perhaps it's just that i'm left handed? Who knows.
In my opinion, the best option for DBG is to redshirt this upcoming season. He'll still be on the roster for every game and likely get a few reps, but hopefully not too many to waste away a year of eligibility.
I only see one scenario for him to be a legit offensive breakout candidate this year, and thats if ZT gets hurt early on and he comes in and is too good to put back on the bench.
And maybe it's as simple as the fact that Zac is the starter and we all saw what the result of him sustaining an injury was.
Regardless, if ZT is to go down with an injury, assuming DGB comes in having worked to get the play book down, DGB has the ability to be considered a player with breakout potential. Obviously that's something no one wants to see happen.
However, with a new coach, a new staff, a new playbook, and what appears to be a coach feeling like he "got his guy", you never know what will happen until the pads come on. Thomas is as new in the system as DGB is.
One thing we should all be able to agree on is that it will be interesting to see how all quarterbacks perform considering the prolific numbers we can expect out of the position with Drink calling the shots.

Re: Predict Your Breakout Player for the 2019 Season
DGB will not see meaningful snaps this year. Drink has said he is red shirting this year. If Zac goes down for any amount of time, we have two serviceable backups that can get the job done.
I am not bashing DGB, but Brown was more ready to start day one than DGB is. Too bad his head got in the way. I don’t understand how you can glow about his tape and claim that it is the best that you have ever seen for an App, but you can’t seem to reconcile yourself to ask the questions that are in front of you. He was an ESPN 100 as a Sophomore and not even in then 300 as a Senior. He wasn’t even the starter on his team as a Senior and it isn’t like he sat behind Tua. The starter is at UAB.
If he plays more than 4 games, we are effed.

Re: Predict Your Breakout Player for the 2019 Season
I think ZT is the best QB we've ever had, but if something terrible DOES happen, I hope DGB plays and kicks ass just bc of the amount of roasting ericsaid has had to endure for his "QB controversy" taek.

Brown is gone. Baldwin-Griffin is the QB in controversy

Was in B-town sat and watched the IMG recruit on the field Sat at 7:00 pm with receivers. Impressed with young the mans work ethics for sat night, and off jump street.(arrived on campus 6/20/19) Hope that arm and dedication persist. Hope we red shirt and lay ground work for future, unless ZT gets injured.

I was thinking the same. Fehr had his breakout last year. I also don't think we can list Akeem Davis-Gaither as a breakout this year because he did so in 2018 as well.

Re: Predict Your Breakout Player for the 2019 Season
If I had to pick I would say
Offense: Either Peoples or Virgil. Could also see a big year from Hennigan or Malik Williams and Henry Pearson already showed out some last year so could see him really step up and give us the postseason 1st and 2nd team All-SBC TE with him and Reed. Jake Henry is one I think starts to flash and show he has talent but really has his big time breakout in 2020.
Keep an eye on Cooper Hodges up front. He should eventually start, if not this year then in 2020, and will be a really good one.
Defense: Nick Hampton either does this year or flashes and has his breakout in 2020. Shaun Jolly and Jordan Earle are two names mentioned earlier I could see as well. Have not seen Trey Cobb or Logan Doublin mentioned but both have shown flashes already.
I know some like to rib about the DBG comments but seriously Thomas is special. When he is healthy he is the 2nd best QB to ever play at App. He is probably the 3rd most physically talented ever but Joe Burchette could not get his head out of his butt. Thomas is special and there is no chance anyone beats him out. The only way someone else starts a game is if Thomas is hurt.

I saw Fehr, last season, having "moments". This year those moments need to become consistent. I think they will.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2019 8:59 amI was thinking the same.
