Has anyone trolled the ECU message board to take their temperature on the thought?

Edit:
Please no. USM is in a perpetual bad money situation. UAB is decent now, but it wouldn’t take a whole lot for them to lose that momentum and become the UAB that poofed out of existence. App St is good, but we don’t need them elevated. It would be like elevating FAU right in USF and UCF’s back yard.

"You smell that Rabbit?....Fear"
Lol I don’t troll them but do post on their 247 board every now and then. Yeah you’re spot on - any reason I’ve seen out of ECU fans to not add App is basically “no, just another school we’d have to recruit against”. I didn’t want to start an argument over there but yeah it does seem like more of a fear thing than anything. I get we don’t match the academic profile of many, if any of the schools in the AAC, but it’s an athletic conference - and to that point i don’t see why we don’t belong, other than $$$ i suppose.
I meant troll as a fishing pun. Pirates...boats...fishing where you throw a line out and just wait to see if anything hits. Swung and missed. I really just meant had anybody skimmed through to see if our name was mentioned.

Unacceptable if he is not.
He should be on a plane with a bottle of Comeback Sauce and two hands full of football championship rings.
And a few bottles of Wilkes county’s finest to start things off.

DG has known about this long before it broke publically.

Just my thoughts:

Why is App State to the AAC a “pipe dream”? A lock or favorite, no- but a pipe dream? No matter what they think they are, we are talking about a stronger G5, not a P5.

Glad the NFL didn’t nix Green Bay- Smaller market, avid fan base, further away from Milwaukee and Madison than we are from Charlotte and Winston.

No matter what happens, our being in the conversation for the AAC shows how far we’ve come in the past decade.

If the AAC is wise, before they look at CUSA, they will look at our record against them.

Proud as hell of our brand, fan base, and history. Our case is based on things like history, championships, bowl wins, and a fan base that loves its team and university, not the population of a nearby city that doesn’t give a crap whether we play or not.

Go APP. Beat ETSU.

Serious question:
Knowing now what we didn’t know then, would CUSA take us over UNCC now, or would CUSA still be fine with taking on a poorly performing school because of market?

Is AAC willing to take this same gamble?

Someone on this board said he had a face-to-face with DG at an App event and he essentially said that DG told him that one of his goals was to get App into a different conference. Unless he was BSing, I would think DG has been working some phones. You've seen what he's done to the sports infrastructure, you can't deny the man has ambitions with the program.

A few thoughts:
1. Yes, it'd be awesome and we'd take it if offered. It's fun to think about, but is a pipedream at this point.
2. App has a bigger sports following in Charlotte than Charlotte.
3. ECU would probably be pretty miserable if App did join.
4. Georgia Southern sucks
Agreed on all accounts. ECU would probably be miserable at first, but I think they’d welcome an annual game with us eventually. I think it would be awesome if we could set up a permanent game in Charlotte a la worlds largest outdoor cocktail party.
If they played their cards right, App and ECU could try to elevate themselves together the same way we and Georgia Southern did when we first came to the Sun Belt. We made the conference better right out of the gate, embarrassing the hell out of all of the established teams and GS winning the conference championship year one, then we follow that up with what we've done.

ECU's been a dumpster fire recently and in need of some good news (the Houston hire hopefully turns them around). You bring in App and then you've got another FCS in-state rivalry in North Carolina. East vs. West...Black and Gold vs. Purple and Gold. Both programs could market that, and maybe even make it an annual neutral site, rivalry week game in Charlotte. If both teams can stay consistently good, the media will start picking up coverage more and then we'll have another "Greatest Rivalry You've Never Heard Of", only except this time you've got the benefit of a better tv deal, bigger programs and better venues.

Maybe it's because I'm looking at this from a marketing perspective, but I think a working relationship with an in-state conference rival could be beneficial to both parties.

The ONLY logical conference move for us now or at any point in the foreseeable future is AAC. MAC and MWC makes no sense and CUSA is not a move up now. P5’s are still out of reach for us.

Per Brett McMurphy, the AAC’s top choices are BYU and Army. If they decide the replace UConn. Apparently a replacement is not guaranteed.

BYU is pretty far away from most of the current AAC members.
A lot of people seem to think Army wants to stay independent and has no intentions of joining a conference.

GO APPS!!

We're never going to a P5 conference. AAC is the farthest up the ladder we are going to get.

It seems like either Army, BYU or stay at 11. All three seem stupid.

UConn will pay $12M to get out. What is entry fee for a new all sports member?

I think Wichita State paid about $2.5M to get in a couple years ago.

Not us please.....I will take 9-2 10-1 sunbelt all day over 6-5 AAC

Average sports fan has no clue what the differences are in the conferences are outside the power 5.
App won't get invited. Basketball is bad, baseball is bad. The budget isn't there to even be in the conversation. Houston just made a deal with a coach on par with P5 schools.

App football would compete right away in my opinion. I think a range of 9-3 to 6-6 would be possible but App would be competitive. I think App of 2018 would match-up well with the top schools of the AAC last year based on what I saw. Was UCF good? Yes. Were they unbeatable? No. App has the players and coaching to compete with almost anyone on any given Saturday; sans Alabama, Clemson, Georgia
Correct. Some people on this board are delusional. We don't have the money, we don't have the market and we don't have the sports. We can play football with anyone but that is not what this is about.

We may not get the invite this time, or we might. But the only delusion on here is to believe that there haven't already been talks with the AAC and that they have no interest.
