Thank you. I read an article stating different and I quoted without checking.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2019 5:57 amJust for the record UGA athletics flys in an out of Athens-Ben Epps Airport (AHN).

Not their football team. The football team uses Hartsfield-Jackson (ATL). The travel party requires planes too big for Athens.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2019 5:57 amJust for the record UGA athletics flys in an out of Athens-Ben Epps Airport (AHN).
For smaller team sports, you are correct, AHN is used.

That is generally correct. My point, and I think you clearly agree, is that Athens has a useable (if not commercial) airport.AppDawg wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2019 6:37 amNot their football team. Don’t you hate when what seems to be a good thread pops back up, has hit like the 9th page and you click to that page hoping for some interesting additions to the conversation only to read 12 more comments completely off the topic? Then are reading the comments along with smart ass retorts you suddenly wish you had done anything else?

Re: UConn leaving the AAC
Unfortunately we don't have much else to do. No sports actually playing right now and the nature of forums in general is to agree, or disagree, or agree but still make a smartass comment to try and be comical, or make comments to show your "superior knowledge", or make a fool of yourself, or make a comment opposing someone just to be rude and obnoxious. I'm sure there are more reasons they happen but I'm even boring myself at this point so I'll shut up now. Let the bashing begin...

Ok y’all. I have a type rating in the 737-700, -800, and -900. I currently fly for a major airline that charters major athletic teams like the Yankees and Braves. I’ve personally flown the Green Bay Packers.NewApp wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2019 5:30 pm"Because he likes to argue."NoLongerLurking wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2019 12:15 pmBecause he likes to argue.

So why haven't big charter planes used Wilkes?
A large charter jet like a 737 or 757 won’t use Wilkesboro. Runway length is great but the weight bearing strength won’t hold the weight of a commercial jet. I believe it’s rated at 60k for dual wheel. 737-900 usually lands at about 145k. It would sink into the asphalt. It can handle corporate traffic all day.
Hickory can handle any charter aircraft App needs. That’s why App uses it. It will continue to be App’s charter airport as long as everyone on this board is alive and breathing. It’s 45 miles and less than an hour.
Boone WILL NEVER get an airport to handle large charter jets. Period.

I think DG tweeted that another big announcement was coming. I can’t confirm it yet, but I think he just saved a bundle by switching his car insurance. Thanks for the experienced, no nonsense, fact based reply. My 13 year old would freak out knowing a Mountaineer had flown the Packers!
