We do need to pick up about 3 good OLs in recruiting this year
We haven't had a lot of success to date in the 2020 class with OL recruiting.

Yeah, I know. So far it seems we're heaving on athletes, LBs and WRs but it's early.

That is the plan. A couple of targets didn't work out for us.

Looking at that list it’s actually not as bad as i thought, granted the young guys pan out. I am high on the three true freshman and Hodges.
On paper it doesn't look bad, but you have to factor in success rate. Not all of them will work out and this list is too small so the margin of error is tight. Go back and look at what we have lost through injury and transfer and you will see what I mean.

I remember seeing tape on one of those 3 freshmen, can't remember which one, but he was big, fast and mowing down some linebackers down field.

I wouldn't be surprised if Dowdy and/or McFarland see playing time this year. Especially if we get banged up at a position or two

This may push that OL transfer from UT closer to more playing time. I haven’t looked closely yet at the OL depth.
Is it possible that the transfer from UT was brought on after the injury to fill depth?

As East said, they keep their scholarships. They transfer over to medical scholarships and do not count toward the 85 limit. To answer the other question about grad transfer. You aren't going to find a transfer that will come in and start. They would more than likely come in for depth and emergency duty to preserve the RS status for the 3 new OL.
Not sure if you're specifically referring to the OL, but Willie Edwards from ISU looks like he could come in and start. Dude is impressive on tape and I can see why Cheese recruited him here.

Depth is what he was coming for, most have said he isn't the best if he has to play though.

He has a chip on his shoulder and was a walk-on at UT. Like Thomas said over the summer, new coaching staff and everyone is fighting for a position. Competition level has been raised.

Also, possible that he is a better fit for our blocking scheme than Tennessee's. Some of our guys that have been great, may not have been successful at other programs because of the blocking scheme.

Have to remember that the scheme is changing as well. It's going to be an adjustment for everyone. Some of the guys lower on the chart may be better fits for the new system? Much ado about nothing at this point.

Man those are some highlights. I agree. Last guy I recall saying ooh and aah after a highlight watch was Cam Peoples. Guess we will see

I obviously enjoyed DBG's highlights from IMG and California but Edwards looks the part. Depending on how fast he picks things up, could be looking at a starting job on Week 1.

Think about how many O linemen we’ve had in the last 4 years or so who have made it onto NFL rosters and you’ll understand the recent success of our offense. Not saying the glamor guys had nothing to do with it but we’ve been blessed with some really good guys on that front line.

The scheme up front is not changing. Same OL coach from last year that learned the scheme from the former
OL coach at State who used it when he was at App.
