First game: ETSU

Unread post by scatman77 » Wed Aug 14, 2019 1:54 pm

I know this will probably cause some folks a bit of constipation but I beg everyone to please stop this infatuation with the uncheat game. They're not that big of a deal primarily because they're not the first game! ETSU is August 31, not uncheat.

Call me old fashioned, call me an old fart, call me superstitious, you can call me a cab.....but don't call me an alarmist when I say forget uncheat. BEAT ETSU!

For the record I hope no one is excited about the uncheat game simply because they agreed to play us. Being a 3-time NCAA national champion, multiple SoCon and Sunbelt champions, beating Michigan, and being voted best team in NC by CBS is validation enough for me. We don't need them to validate our team. I do however hope that when that game rolls around we hang about 100 on them!
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Send this to the players. What fans infatuate over is irrelevant. Just my opinion.

Sorry, can’t help myself, your asking us to stop talking about the UNC game and you spent most of you post talking about the UNC game.

I agree Moody, let the players be focused on the next game up, and let us have our fun. As a former athlete, I understand and appreciate the sentiment from scatman but unless any posters on here are players (I really, really hope none of them are on here), I see no problem with getting excited about other games on the schedule.

Even the players haven't started game prep for ETSU yet.

Talk about whatever game you like. We're going to house ETSU and that's a fact. UNC (and South Carolina) is a chance for a program-changing win.

I'm glad we have the opportunity to beat the nose off the face UNC looks down with at our second class University.

It's not like we'll take 'em to the hoop in basketball anytime soon.

I agree, we aren't in The SmallCon anymore.

I don’t feel like discussing UNC prior to UNC week is a big deal, but we’re getting close to kickoff so let’s talk about the ETSU game too!

This is apparently one of the best teams the SoCon has to offer this year. I love the ETSU, UNCC, UNC talet-crescendo (if you will) before we start conference play.

Anyone have a scouting report for ETSU?

They have a QB that transferred from Miami. No idea how good he is supposed to be or if he's even the projected starter.

If we give up 17 to ETSU I will be disappointed. I expect our defense to be lights out again this year.

Last year they ended #22 and lost by a touchdown to Jacksonville State in the playoffs. They also went 3OT with Western Carolina. We could keep starters in all four quarters or pull them for the last quarter. If we do the latter, then App 45-14 ETSU. If we don't App 56-3 ETSU.

Are they coming to Boone the day before or day of game? Either way those curvy roads will have their stomachs churning and heads swimming, so get barf crew ready to clean up.

They’re used to it by now. Once you leave the Interstates over there, the roads are all curvy.

Isn’t it great to have a schedule like this to talk about?

Looking at their 2018 games, almost all their wins were close. Beat VMI by 3, Furman by 2, UTC by 3, Citadel by 3, WCU by 3 in triple OT and Mercer by 3. They did blow out Gardner-Webb 45-0, but lost to Wofford 30-17 and blew their chance at an outright SoCon Title versus Samford (38-27 at home).

ETSU co-won the SoCon at 6-2 with Wofford and Furman. Six of the eight teams were 4-4 or better (poor Western and VMI)

They went to Rocky Top and got blown out 59-3. It was 38-0 at halftime so it wasn't close.

People are excited about the UNC game because it offers us our best opportunity to take the next best step as an FBS team. Satterfield's teams were great, but they could never knock out a P5 team. They came close multiple times, but we don't want to be known as a team that can hang with those teams but ultimately lose. As bad as they were last year, and may still be this year, winning against UNC is our next step on the rung of the FBS ladder.

Playing ETSU and Charlotte is the same old story.

Is the Seahorse still open?
Many an APP Alum can vouch for the curviness of the roads between Johnson City and Boone.
