Florida State was in the hunt for a while, guess Mack promised the Heels wouldn't suck as bad as the Seminoles?

Saw this fellow play a number of times this past year and I hate to say it but he has the strongest arm I've ever seen at the high school level. BUT, he's a freshman and we need to make him look like one!

I attended Howell's high school (many moons before him) so I've followed his career before he committed to UNC. Fedora actually tried to flip him to UNC by landing a helicopter on an adjacent field before one of his high school games, but he remained steadfast. It wasn't until FSU OC Walt Bell departed Tallahassee for UMass that he decided to become a Hole.

Trevor Lawrence had a strong supporting cast on both sides of the ball to help him be really good. UNC does not have that at this time. Even if he is as good, UNC is not going to be a Clemson or Alabama this year.

Trevor Lawrence has a supporting cast, but he is all that is advertised.

I'll certainly be reading up on him after each of the first two games. He is getting thrown to the wolves from game one. Like others have noted, his supporting cast will likely the be the difference in his early success.

Considering he’ll face South Carolina, Miami and Wake before us, he’ll have ample opportunity to either grow into the role or get shell-shocked.

I saw him play VS Charlotte Catholic last year. 9-18 for 84 yards and he ran for his life gaining 92 yards. They lost 28-7. The speed of the college game will rock him for a while.

Yep, and Mack may have moved on to QB2 or 3 by then...

To be fair, he can't be any worse than any of the guys that played last year, so understand him being named starter. Might as well give a guy a chance to grow early. That being said, I'm looking forward to our first game of the season, which is against UNC. I can't believe we don't have any games before that one.

Early returns on Howell and the other 2 from UNC practice aren’t really glowing reviews. While he was a highly touted recruit coming out in his class, it was seen to be a pretty underwhelming QB class. Howell shouldn’t be mentioned in the same sentence as Trevor Lawrence.

There has only really been one Trevor Lawrence in College Football History. My guess is he's more of a Taylor Lamb as a freshman.
