Student Tailgate

Just got word from some friends still in school that student tailgating will be at Sanford Mall this year. Any word on this from anyone else? This is very disappointing if true, student tailgating at App has always had great support and turnout and feel like this may really hurt the atmosphere.

This is correct. I mean, the duck pond field is literally gone and covered in building foundation.

I think Sanford will still be a great experience. Further walk, but still just as fun.

I was thinking more so with Raley in the student tailgate lottery. From the info I gathered Raley no longer had a student tailgate lottery.

This could become like The Grove at Ole Miss. I'm sure there will be some growing pains at first, but over the years it could become a great tradition.

This is short term problem. Students will have a marvelous grassy area in the middle of the three new dorms that used to be the Stadium parking lot. It will be the best place on campus to tailgate in a couple years.

Surely this is only the Greek tailgate that’s being moved???

If they move the students from Raley there’s going to be a riot. I’ll lead it if I have to.

I think it would be nice to let the students get set up the night before like they do at Ole Miss.

Agree. Whatever they do at Ole Miss, do the same at Sanford Mall. It would be nice to see a student side and an alumni side. I'd much rather walk up there for a few beers versus standing around a parking deck. Need a stage for a band too. I think this will turn out well in time.

I with you on this. I really hope the student still have half of the Raley lot.

The lack of communication is the most alarming. If we have to relocate the students, fine, it’s gotta happen then. But pick a spot for them and tell the damn students! There isn’t any info available as far as I can tell.

What the hell are we doing? This might be the biggest blunder of DGs tenure here. Just terrible communication.

I'm in the yosef club but not a heavy hitter contributor nor am I 'in the know'...personally i think many of these ideas were horrendous. A parking deck right at the stadium? Atmosphere killer. Only adding like 3500 seats? That's like adding 0 seats because we pack in over a sellout every week. Part of the reason attendance has stopped growing is older folks wont stand with students or sit on hills. App could average 35k plus with seats...its just all seems so wasteful when you look at the price tag. I could be wrong when the product is finished...but when I bring up these concerns to my in the know friends they quickly jump down my throat and say "it's part of growth" or "trust in doug"

Riot? That'll be after consecutive losses to johnson city and concord. Some little shitbirds not being able to party where they once did...I don't give a rat's anus.

My daughter was a freshman 2 years ago. She told me there was no communication about the games on campus.

Students and their game experience are the life blood of App State game day.

Shitbirds? Really?

This might be the worst post I’ve ever read. 🤡

I would LOVE for folks on the east side behind the visitor's bench to give the students their tickets for the halloween game. I will, gladly. Pack east side with students right behind their bench.... Give those shiteagles a taste of their own medicine.

They tried this in about 1999. First in Sanford, then up on the (now) softball field. It failed miserably and many Greek orgs ended up not tailgating because of the logistical nightmare of getting things to the tailgates. At that time, they wouldn’t allow vehicles to deliver tents/tables/smokers/etc anywhere near the tailgates and even with 20 pledges it was an hour back and forth to get everything there, then it had to all be carried down again. If they do this, then they need to allow vehicular traffic or set up the tailgates the night before (or something). And this isn’t just Greeks, it’s every student org that wants to take part.

If they come up with a good way for tailgating stuff to be brought in/out, I think it's a great idea. I'd love to see more action on campus pre-game. I park in the Library Deck and have no issue with the walk to the stadium and I'm old.

At Ole Miss, and other Old money institutions, these tailgates are set up and catered by private contractors hired by alum and generous parents. The students just stumble in looking for free food and booze, probably not in that order. I don't see App getting to that place because of our blue collar mentality. I like our blue collar status and i think our students will continue to figure out how to throw a party without their mommy and daddy's help. And become better leaders in the process.

Last thing I'd be worried about is the university not telling the students "this is where you party". Suitcase of PBRs, a bucket of chickin and a speaker is all you need.
