Re: Eric Church
And I had always heard that “nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina” was written about South Carolina! Seriously.BeauFoster wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 12:52 pmFunny enough, I have a few Elon friends who insist that "Carolina in My Mind" was about a dorm at Elon named Carolina, where an early girlfriend of James Taylor lived for a year.DaphneUrquhart wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 12:25 pmFor what it's worth, Eric Church does support App.
His song "Carolina" definitely speaks of mountain life. If Chapel Hill wants to blast out a song about our neck of the woods, blast on.
Like it or not, it's not Boone that folks think of when they hear the word "Carolina". Our own band uses "Nothing Could be Finer [than to be in Carolina]" in its opening show. There are current App videos with "Carolina in My Mind" (James Taylor's song written when he was homesick for the Chapel Hill - Carrboro area in which he had grown up). "Carolina in My Mind" has been the unofficial theme song of UNC-CH for decades. I don't hear folks complaining that we're using some of the sames songs they use in Chapel Hill.
Y'all do and say what you want. I'm still going to sing along with Eric Church songs and spend my hard earned dollars on his music and appreciate the support he does give to App.
See you at The Rock!
Has nothing to do with Eric Church at all, just thought I'd share.
As to Eric Church, I'm not a big fan of his music, nor am I a big fan of him prancing around in all baby blue and attending recruiting events for the Heels. However, he's free to do as he wishes.

Re: Eric Church
I think the song is simply referring to playing mountain music, not necessarily being in the mountains. But If you really think about the lyrics it’s not a great song for us. That said it is one of the songs that gets a response from our crowd.BeauFoster wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 1:47 pmIs there even a mountain within 100 miles of a cajun hideaway?goapps93 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 12:50 pmYeah, and for some reason we seem to like a song by a band called Alabama that talks about floating down a river to a Cajun hideway. All you folks who don’t want to have anything to do with Church need to get Drink on board. In his recent interview on GOASU it’s mentioned that he has a guitar in his office for Combs or Church to sign if either one of them comes to visit.

Luke has been touring for a while now. The rest says a hell of a lot more than I think you want it to say.

Dylan didn't write that lyric. Dylan only wrote the chorus. The verses were written by Ketch Secor of Old Crow Medicine Show.asu7 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 3:23 pmLove that song but yes that was a goof by Dylan.AppinVA wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 1:52 pmThere’s another group that heads west from Cumberland Gap to Johnson City, Tennessee.BeauFoster wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 1:47 pmIs there even a mountain within 100 miles of a cajun hideaway?goapps93 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 12:50 pmYeah, and for some reason we seem to like a song by a band called Alabama that talks about floating down a river to a Cajun hideway. Re: Eric Church
I have one question for Mr. Church. Has he been invited to join The Grand Old Opry to be an Member of the permanent performers to the cast of the Opry? Luke Combs has because of the frequency he performs there.

See I could've sworn those words were "heading west to the Cumberland Gap OR Johnson City, Tennessee," because if you hitch a ride out of Roanoke with a trucker out of Phily and then have nice, long toke, you might only know your going somewhere west but not sure where.appst89 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 5:10 pmDylan didn't write that lyric. EDIT: I just went back a listened to Wagon Wheel. Darn, if I haven't been wrong all these years. Must have been my geographic OCD fixing it in my subconscious.

Gotcha! I love OCMS but they definitely messed that up haha. I have met the original group but I think the band has changed some. Saw them at the Paramount in Bristol. One of the best shows I have ever seen.appst89 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 5:10 pmDylan didn't write that lyric. Dylan only wrote the chorus. Re: Eric Church
OCMS used to play Rafters and Klondike all the time back in towards the end of my college days right before/around when they were "discovered". Great shows back in the day.asu7 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 7:10 pmGotcha! I love OCMS but they definitely messed that up haha. I have met the original group but I think the band has changed some. We should use that song the way WVU uses "Country Road".

Re: Eric Church
I heard an interview with Secor a couple of years ago. He said he knew it should have been east instead of west, but west sounded better so he left it that way.asu7 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 7:10 pmGotcha! Re: Eric Church
I know this is a bash EC thread, but EC & Luke Combs are playing a concert together at Mercedes Benz Stadium in ATL on Nov 17th, the day after our game at Georgia State.

Re: Eric Church
The cheapest tickets on Ticketmaster are $59 each. That's in the nose bleed section of Mercedes-Benz Stadium, and that doesn't include the fees that Ticketmaster adds. If you plan on going with a significant other, and want to actual see the performers, plan on dropping at least $500.
