UNC-CHeat achieved their goal, get under the skin of App by playing an intro of their alum supporting the Tar Holes.
I like Eric Church’s music but highly disappointed in his agreement to play the intro for UNC-CHeat against his alma mater. In poor taste whether he or his staff made the decision.
So just to recap here. Eric Church goes out of his way to make an intro video for App State. App fans riot because “ThEY ToOk SeAN cOnNoRY inTRo AwaY”. Eric Church feels burned and rightly so. Fast forward several years and he’s good friends with Mack Brown and has an intro for UNC and now you guys are mad? Weird.
There are some wounds to heal from App fan’s perspective and Eric Church’s perspective. I’m fine with you all pushing him away if you pony up the cash that he donates every year to make up the difference after he gets fed up and stops sending App money.
Do you know for a fact EC feels burned?
Let me how if you do.
I agree end this thread

Sometimes I think we go out of our way to feel slighted. Sometimes it helps to have a chip on your shoulder but it's not always a good look.

I’ve defended Church in the past but on Saturday we didn’t have to go out of our way to “feel slighted”. He was right up there on the big screen in baby blue. If he gave a crap about his association with App he wouldn’t have been on that board Saturday. He said screw App and it was as intentional as it could have been.

My iTunes (or whatever it’s called now) is now 100% Eric Church free. More room for Luke songs.

I think before Saturday reasonable App minds could have differed as it related to EC. After that video played on Saturday that stopped being the case.
I'll repeat my take from twitter (which is a modified Benjamin Franklin quote about Benedict Arnold):
Judas betrayed one man. Eric Church betrayed 100,000 loving alumni.

They should get a room. Fake country music anyway. Jamey Johnson or Aaron Lewis. Luke is as new country as I go.
Aaron Lewis, as in the front man for Staind? That is real country to you?

Country music today is alright, however, it's redundant. Almost every tune sounds the same. I prefer the bluegrass sound myself, like this:

Not defending Church’s support of the Heels, but he was spurned by our own fan base when he did the intro video for us a few years ago. Admittedly it was a weird Max Headroom ‘Welcome to the Rock’, but there was a lot of venom directed at him personally and not the strange production. Also, I believe they tried to use his song Outsiders, which I happen to think is a great theme song for us, but it was spurned as well.
That’s not why he’s a tar heel fan. Please stop deflecting. As if app nation kissed his a** more he would be all in on us. Not true.

Some folks REALLY need to turn loose of this Eric Church stuff. I don't know who he pulled for Saturday but if he pulled for the Tarheels, he probably needs a big ole hug. The parable of the prodigal son teaches that when one of our sons goes astray and returns, he should be welcomed with open arms.

I'm happy to say that I couldn't pick Eric Church out of a lineup or name one of his songs

It’s more real than 98% of country that is on the radio today.

I agree with ASU7....I’m no country fan, but that new Aaron Lewis stuff is about as American blooded country as it gets.

Is anyone watching the Ken Burns documentary on PBS about Country music?

This whole thing is trivial. How does his support for UNC have any impact on you or anyone else on this board? Frankly, I could care less who he supports and my feelings aren't hurt because he may like Carolina.

I dunno. He's just another App grad who chooses UNC for his allegiance instead of his alma mater. I guess that's OK, but I detest it when that happens and so do most other Apps.

Most App grads don't keep up a single bit with App sports. I think a lot of your guys confuse "most apps" with die hard fans on message boards or your friends circles. I know more App grads that didn't know we played unc than did. I know more App grads that pull for other NC teams than I know App grads that pull for App. I agree with whoever said it earlier, that some people just look to be offended. He is no different than the majority of people who graduate from App. He is just more high profile. There are a number of high profile alum that don't do diddly squat with App in the spotlight. The idea that people "owe" a university some kind of blood oath loyalty is just naive. People pay their money for the service of education, that is it. If you happen to form a deep attraction to the university that is on the individual. All these obsessive people need to get off his nuts and take a chill pill.
