I was just thinking last Saturday after looking at scores from around the country how once you get past the top 10-15 teams, everyone else in the P5 and G5 are pretty close in the middle. I'd put the number higher then you did with 50. You don't start getting into the significantly out-matched stinkers until you get up into the 80s spots.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2019 12:07 pmI am like John Snow, in that I know NOTHING. But my take is: there are six really good teams and ten really solid teams. 17-50 you could put in a bag and make a random draw. App is in that bag. UNC is in the bag. They may win. We may win. But they aren't one of those teams I'm scared of.

From this morning’s News & Record, “It’s a start that has the Tar Heels receiving votes in the Associated Press top 25 poll. It also has fans thinking about a possible 4-0 start-Appalachian State is in Chapel Hill next weekend-ahead of North Carolina’s Sept. 28 game against No. 1 Clemson.”

Re: Perfect Scenario Brewing for Tarheel Game
It's entirely possible that happens. It's also equally possible that App blows UNC out. It's also equally possible that it's a close game that comes down to the last drive or two. At this point, this game is a total crap shoot. I have faith in our squad, though.
Give 'em hell!

Our players need to be reading the unc message boards. Wow do we or wake (preferably us) need to force some humble pie down their throats. How do they forget last year so easily? The magic is going to run out soon enough, hopefully on week 4.

they are already down their starting center and a starting corner. I really can't see a UNC blowout win unless we just get careless with the ball and allow them some short fields and easy scores. The key will be to keep the wine and cheese crowd quiet.

I’m a firm believer that the final play will be Michael Rubino missing wide right! Apropos.

If our guys need to read the UNC board to get up for this game then we have problems. That being said a little extra motivation wouldn’t hurt!
I think playing the fight song all the time would work. I mean it has before.

So far Rubio has been used strictly as the kickoff man. He's kicked off 12 times, with eight going for touchbacks.

Re: Perfect Scenario Brewing for Tarheel Game
I hate to throw any cold water on the thread, but how does the fact that four coaches on staff at UNC are former App coaches impact their likelihood of "overlooking" App? Mack and Sparky both date back to the "old school" App, but Stacy Searels and Lonnie Galloway probably remember us pretty well. What do you guys think? How does that play into this equation?

Re: Perfect Scenario Brewing for Tarheel Game
I think the coaches are experienced enough not to overlook us but the players are another story. Their players have already been quoted that they should be ranked in the top 10 after the Miami win. If they beat Wake tonight, hopefully by a wide margin, then they aren't going to be thinking about App when they have Clemson the next weekend...Mack will have to reign them in which is easier said than done especially when they keep hearing how great they are.

Re: Perfect Scenario Brewing for Tarheel Game
I have to admit that I'm somewhat torn tonight. I know that it is in App's best interest for UNC to win (both in keeping them cocky and SOS) but I usually pull for Wake and State in the ACC and I ALWAYS like seeing UNC lose. I think that, if we have our intensity and execution where it should be, we control our own destiny anyway.

Re: Perfect Scenario Brewing for Tarheel Game
I don’t think that it factors in at all. None of them, Acitelli included, have relationships with any of the current players. They can probably glean our personnel from recent P5 contest. We can run with anyone and we don’t quit.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2019 8:55 amI hate to throw any cold water on the thread, but how does the fact that four coaches on staff at UNC are former App coaches impact their likelihood of "overlooking" App? Below are years since leave App State.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2019 8:55 amI hate to throw any cold water on the thread, but how does the fact that four coaches on staff at UNC are former App coaches impact their likelihood of "overlooking" App? Mack Brown: 36 years
Darrell Moody: 35 years
Sparky Woods: 31 years
Stacy Searels: 20 years
Lonnie Galloway: 12 years
I don't think it plays into it at all. Sparky Woods spent the most time here. Galloway came from our 2007 championship/Michigan victory season. A lot has changed since then. They may think of us as that FCS team they used to coach. A "we'll prepare, but not worried" type of deal.

Re: Perfect Scenario Brewing for Tarheel Game
It could be a blow out for one side or the other. I am personally expecting a shootout that goes down to last possession. I don't have a feel for how we show next week at all.
