Afraid another 40 year tradition is gone
In other complaining news— I didn’t hear the Olympic Theme (Buglers Dream) at all, seems to have been replaced by canned music. Maybe I’m wrong as I’m in 205 and it’s hard to hear the band. But I know we have played that song since 1976 (I was in the band and we started playing it after the 76 Summer Olympics). If it in fact has been removed that’s very sad to me, it seemed to be a universally recognized App tradition as we kicked off. If you’re a Mountaineer of any length of time, listen to that song and try not to get chill bumps.

I'm surprised the Band of Distinction has time to play anything with canned music running so much. Just gotta get used to it I guess. Heck, the video board even played over the UNC-C pep band a couple times.

Didn’t they stop playing it last year until a bunch of people complained too? It feels like deja vu with this and the concessions complaints. Are they trying to sneak this past us or something?
Re: Afraid another 40 year tradition is gone
Well i thought the BOD was effectively taking out of the game due to all the canned music. The music is fine when inserted appropriately but give the BOD a chance. I did hear them they play some Elvis.

While I love the tradition, I really enjoy seeing players (From both teams) get hype to " Hard In the paint"

Thats fine for when we’re receiving, but for kicking off, it needs to be the band playing Bugler’s Dream/\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2019 7:43 pmWhile I love the tradition, I really enjoy seeing players (From both teams) get hype to " Hard In the paint"

Exactly. They can play whatever they want when we are receiving.AppinATL wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2019 8:17 pmThats fine for when we’re receiving, but for kicking off, it needs to be the band playing Bugler’s Dream/\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2019 7:43 pmWhile I love the tradition, I really enjoy seeing players (From both teams) get hype to " Hard In the paint"

I remember being on the sidelines when the BOD played that! The team and the entire stadium erupted, especially since the Olympics were that year. It also didn't hurt that it reminded us of Kathleen Sullivan and that blue dress!!wncapp78 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2019 7:14 pmIn other complaining news— I didn’t hear the Olympic Theme (Buglers Dream) at all, seems to have been replaced by canned music. We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

That’s great. Not just once or twice, I hope, but every time App kicks off. It could get tedious — gloriously tedious.

I do think DG listens. I expect some Jr marketing and promotion person was/is making the music decisions. All the more reason to let DG, AS WELL AS THE Band Director, gardnerjp@appstate.edu know that fans want more BOD. And if you send a note, please ask the band to play in the direction of the fans. They’ve done that a few times with Yikas and they could be heard

Re: Afraid another 40 year tradition is gone
I'd be cool with that, but they need to find a way to make the band louder. I sit in section 112 and had trouble hearing them all game.AppinATL wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2019 8:17 pmThats fine for when we’re receiving, but for kicking off, it needs to be the band playing Bugler’s Dream/\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2019 7:43 pmWhile I love the tradition, I really enjoy seeing players (From both teams) get hype to " Hard In the paint"

Buglers Dream is a must on kickoffs. I remember kickoffs from when I was in high school and pointing to the endzone while it played.

i sit in Section 205 and can barely hear the band at all when they are in the stands. It was so much better when they were in the end zone.

Re: Afraid another 40 year tradition is gone
I wonder if there’s a copyright barrier to the BOD playing more of the stuff that gets piped in instead. If not, it could be the best of both worlds.
“Mo Bamba” does zero for me over the loudspeaker—not to dredge up that topic— but it could be cool to hear our band play something like that. The students and players would be into it. The band would feel good playing a song written this millennium.

Re: Afraid another 40 year tradition is gone
He does listen, said the band is responsible for the music. I'd e-mail Dr. Gardner and copy DG. A little Hey Baby and My Girl. Old and boring maybe but good sing along. Asfor hearing the band, why not mic them up?wncapp78 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2019 9:37 pmI do think DG listens. I expect some Jr marketing and promotion person was/is making the music decisions.
