Special teams

Unread post by Mjohn1988 » Wed Sep 11, 2019 10:37 am

Just took a look at our two special teams scores from last week. Sometimes you just get lucky but that was not the case here. Jolly made the punt block look easy. His execution was perfect, he took the ball right off the punters foot. And on the onside kick return the blocking was flawless. Talk about teamwork, the blockers simply ignored the ball and did their job which allowed number 3 to make the catch and the run. If you haven’t taken a look at these 2 plays you should. Kudos to coach Link and our guys on the field, impressive stuff.

I haven't made it to the second half yet, but I've re-watched that Jolly block over and over again. His execution was perfect and he didn't touch the kicker...a thing of beauty. Everybody did their jobs and then Jackson made a heads up play to scoop and run. Just a beautiful ST play.

What happened to our punter Howell? And I thought the hangtime Subotch has and distance was stellar.

Not sure what's happened but he seems to be struggling with consistency. I have watched him in pregame the last two weeks. Hard to complain with the way X has been punting.

Could also be nothing has happened to Howell. Subotsch has been booming his kicks, could simply be he's out kicked Howell in practice (and he has backed it up in the games).

Saturday was the first time since I started following App way back in the day that I felt comfortable with a kickoff that didn’t sail through the end zone. That coverage was amazing.

Poor choice of words on my part. I didn't mean to imply that X has gained the job because something has happened to Howell. He has simply won the job because he has been the better punter.

Crazy, Howell was so good last year, not saying he’s not just as good this year. Just hard to believe we have 2 punters who are that good.
