For the record, the article is from SI, not ESPN.

Technically I guess all non-conference games could be called "tune up" games but I hope UNC is thinking of it that way.

He calls Wake a “tune up game” as well, so he’s not talking about a conference thing. It’s up to us to prove him wrong. We received a lot of great press prior to the start of the season. Time to get it done.

I have seen the Wake game referred to as a non conference game on several occasions since they are in different divisions.

True, Wake is in the ACC, but that particular game does not count as a conference game. Agree, time to get it done..

The Wake game is actually a nonconference game, but there's no way that's what he meant. Nobody thinks OOC games don't matter in college football.

The writer honestly just seems a little... out there. I was all ready to be offended on App's behalf, but it seems more like he's just wildly optimistic about UNC. Wake is actually favored in that game (although I think UNC will beat them).

It's not because they're in different divisions (those are still conference games). It's because it isn't part of the ACC schedule, but was scheduled by the schools the same way UNC and App scheduled a nonconference series.

That's true. I admit to posting before reading but I still think his comment was more in the context of "tuning up" for Clemson...as in ALL games leading up to Clemson were prep for that game. It's definitely a poor choice of words and does sound diminishing to both App and Wake (both are 2-0). I know it would be in App's best interest for UNC to win this weekend but I think they will actually struggle with Wake.

I would love to catch the Heels looking past us and rip them a new one. The next two weeks should be very interesting.

If UNC goes 10-2 or 11-1 as this writer indicates may happen, the ACC is garbage.

It’s hard for me to say, I’m an abc guy, but let’s have them go 11 and 1 with a loss to App. State.

As others have mentioned, Wake is called a tune-up game also and Vegas disagrees.

Though the full sentence is "Now, he’s got two tune-up games against Wake Forest and Appalachian State before No. 1 Clemson comes to town on Sep. 28." and proceeds to write off Virginia and others.

So we shouldn't take it personally, but I hope our players do. Bulletin board.

I currently would put Wake roughly about even with us (mostly based on the tight game with Utah State) so will be interesting to try to watch some of their game this Friday to see how we may match up.

As another thread is focused on, the scenario is developing perfect for us. Hopefully, they beat Wake, get ranked, and then start focusing on Clemson...

If anyone is in Boone, has a spare poster board and wants to hang a "TUNE-UP GAME" sign on the fence outside the stadium, you'd be doing our team a motivational service.

Maybe the writer sees every game as a tune-up game for the next. To me, that is really the only explanation. Otherwise he just doesn't really understand CFB and has no business writing for SI.

This writer sure is chugging that Carolina Koolaid awfully early in the season. I hope the team is aware of this already. I hope we prove the writer wrong. Maybe the heels will be our tuneup game. We shall see. Can’t wait.
