House Divided: It's Time for "Trash Talk"

For years I have taken my family to App State football games. My three daughters have husbands and children now. My sons-in-law have worn App State gear proudly. But this upcoming UNC game has caused a decisive division: Two of my daughters and one son-in-law graduated from Carolina. The division could not be any deeper. Saturday we will tailgate together, but the contrast could not be any clearer: Black and Gold and Carolina Blue. Even my two beautiful granddaughters will be adorn in Carolina blue cheerleader outfits. It's time for some good-natured "trash talk." For me it doesn't take much for me to get fired up. I can't help but think back, listening to the CONTENDER song and see the face of Armanti Edwards and seeing that heart beating App State "A." Now I see the faces of Josh Thomas, Victor Johnson, Jordan Fehr, and Zac Thomas. My battle flags are flying outside my house. It's time! I'm ready!!!

Not quite as deep as your situation but I too, have a daughter who graduated from UNC who grew up going to games at The Rock and actually pulls for App football normally. She will be adorned in baby blue Saturday at our Black & Gold tailgate. We've been talking a little trash leading up to the season and I heard a lot from her as they won their first 2 games; however, haven't heard a word after Friday's game...it's like crickets all of a sudden. Interesting factoid, her husband is a Delaware alum...I've had a little fun with that also over the years.

My younger brother went to UNC and I broke a ten year steak of consecutive games at the Rock to be his best man over this past Labor day weekend.
I really hope we beat them out the gate.

All of my family and many of my besties are Tar Heels. Im the ONLY member of my family who went to App. My childhood and still friend went to Carolina and Carolina Law school. There are deep abiding divisions. But Black and Gold I am.

I will be watching the game at a wedding this weekend. I have been told I am not allowed to talk about the game around my cousin (UNC grad) because she can’t handle trash talk and may get upset.

My sister graduated from UNC-CH. We have done a few basketball games including the last time App State men basketball played. She is not a huge follower of college athletics though she does not mind seeing UNC-CH win either. She moved to the metro area of London, GB over the summer to be with her wife so I don't have any direct family with connections that have a UNC-CH diploma. I was kinda looking forward to this game that maybe we could both get tickets to. I guess now I will have to wake up early Sunday and give her a call.
Shameless plug: On a side note, my daughter stayed by herself after all her friends left the game in the cold to watch Cox break the rushing record a few years ago. I don't know if that deserves any special consideration but she does enjoy App football. If anyone has one ticket left do thank of her if you can.

Chancellor Peacock said it best, "Why stop at the hill when you can go to the mountaintop?!"
Nothing else needs to be said

If you really want to make her cry, tell her that if she schedules her next wedding during football season, you aren’t coming.

My immediate family graduated from App, UNC-G and NCSU. There is zero division over this weekend. Everyone is united against the boys in baby blue.

Father (RIP), mother, older brother, and niece all went to UNC-CH. I was accepted and decided to attend App State a month before I was supposed to leave for UNC-CH. Hardly missed a game in Kenan or Carmichael with my father growing up. A lot of good memories for me in Kenan, and where I learned to love the traditions of college football.
I've been waiting for this football matchup since I first made the best decision to attend App State.
No trash talk in my family. Just hoping App State goes in and does the job, and plays four full quarters of physical, smashmouth football. A win in Kenan for us on Saturday will be another validation of the progress and success of our football program. I absolutely cannot wait. My fiancee is already tired of my anticipation!!
