Ranking Projection

Unread post by andreracer » Sun Sep 22, 2019 10:10 am

What will it take to get ranked? Will beating Carolina do it or do we need to win a few more? How will we be able to jump UFC and Boise?

Keep winning and others in front of us lose.

We have 24 points in this week's poll.

We should be 30ish, would be my guess.

I expect TCU, Arizona State and Wazzu to fall out of the top 25. UCF will hold on if they are lucky and honestly UVA should be gone but they get the P5 benefit for scraping by ODU, a team we regularly destroy.
A&M might drop out but they have a crazy hard schedule. Both their wins were against nobodies.

SMU, Boise and Memphis are who we need to worry about. I think they stand in the way of our NY6 bid. Oh plus that pesky detail that we need to run the table.

A one loss Sunbelt team will never make an NY6 bowl.

Edit: Or yeah read the post above me haha.

Also while it doesn’t shock me that Michigan stayed ranked because of ridiculous P5 bias, that team is straight trash.

Wisconsin absolutely embarrassed them and it wasn’t even as close as the score reflected. They scraped by Army at home. They have no business receiving votes, let alone in the top 25.

Beating UNC will not do it. I said before we pick up votes but still won't get farther than 30 based on who lost. We need to win by more than the spread and have teams in front of us lose. I would say worst case we are ranked at 6-0 but maybe as early as 5-0. Unless we win by 30 against CCU and have 2-3 teams ranked 20-25 lose and then 4 teams ahead of us in RV votes lose then maybe a shot at 24-25 next week but I still doubt that.

I’ve said for years that there shouldn’t be a ranking until after 6 games. Get a couple of conference games played by everyone

Couldn’t agree more. Those ranked pre-season get a massive benefit over those that have to make their way in.

It’ll never happen though. #4 Auburn vs #12 Oregon sells a lot more tv ads than Auburn vs Oregon.

You don’t think uva should be ranked at all? Really? They are a good team.

Meh. Had to comeback to beat ODU (terrible) and Florida State (terrible).
Other two wins are William & Mary and Pitt.

4-0 is 4-0 so I suppose the ranking makes sense. But I don’t think they are good.

Win the next two and then we can start splitting hairs.

I hope the team realized what many of us said last year in that being ranked means nothing if you don't successfully defend that ranking. We need to win convincingly so the voters give us respect. #BeatCoastal

You guys need to remember Deems Hole said "APP couldn't beat anyone in the ACC Coastal"

App will have a tough time getting ranked now.

Teams ahead of are going to lose. I really think had we not had the Gumroot debacle, last season APP could have ended up in the top 15. That many teams ahead of us lost. Same will happen again this year. Just take care of business each week. App is a veteran team and knows how to win. We saw that yesterday. The Holes had no clue.

Absolutely would have been in that range.

For the record, Wake is just outside of the AP (and is #24 in the Coaches) with a slightly better resume than we have. (4 games vs our three, wider margin of victory over the Holes, wins over 3 different FBS conferences, etc).

Just keep winning, baby.
