Re: Drink on Rome now
If Belichek is texting him and hes going on the Rome show...... I don't see him hanging around here long. A bigger program will snatch him up if he keeps up the success. I'll just enjoy him while I can.

DG better keep that rolodex warm, because you're right - he's gonna need it in 2-3 years probably.

Re: Drink on Rome now
I wonder if he is committed to getting us to an NY6 or consecutive season rankings before he bounces? I know CFB is different than business, but I always find it hard changing positions at my company when I’ve committed to elevate my area to a certain level. Nevertheless, I’m enjoying Drink while he is there.

What really stinks is that one of the big boys can quadruple his salary to hire him as an offensive coordinator.

He has to win the Sun Belt before he goes anywhere. It's not like he inherited a dumpster fire. As for more money as an OC somewhere, he likes being the man...and will stay a head coach as long as he can.

Totally agree. Just pointing out the reality. Hope he and the family enjoy their time on the mountain...for a long time.

Not really worried about him bouncing for a HC at another place quite yet. I wouldn't interview him if I was AD at a larger school until he can prove that he can win with his own recruits. He inherited a loaded roster and anyone that is hiring him will know that. As for the OC job, he would have to go to a top 5 program to make that kind of money. Too early for these conversations

Happens all the time in CFB though. Hot names get hired. Willie Taggart had an all time losing record and got hired at a premier program.yosef69 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2019 1:37 pmNot really worried about him bouncing for a HC at another place quite yet. Yeah it's pretty naive to think programs will wait on a guy 4-5 years like that. Do people not remember Arkansas State losing their coach four years in a row? Tons of other 1-2 year examples too.APPdiesel wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2019 2:05 pmHappens all the time in CFB though. Hot names get hired. And people shouldn't kid themselves into thinking Drink is "committed" to reaching a certain goal or staying X number of years at App. He has zero previous ties here. He's here until he gets an offer he likes better, like any other coach.

Re: Drink on Rome now
Right, that’s why I said it. Of course, I see people I work with cut bait without hesitation even for a couple of extra bucks. I can’t blame Drink if a big dog comes a knocking with a HC position. I doubt he leaves for a OC unless it’s one of the big 5 dogs (Clemson, Bama, Ohio St, Oklahoma, Georgia) or maybe Auburn.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2019 2:33 pmYeah it's pretty naive to think programs will wait on a guy 4-5 years like that. Re: Drink on Rome now
Or he hangs around like Satterfield did, build a program and a reputation, and leave for $4 million. Sounds like it would be better to bet on yourself landing another head coaching job than to take a coordinator position.

Drink's home state's SEC flagship Arkansas Razorbacks will probably be looking for a coach come December.appstatealum wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2019 3:00 pmRight, that’s why I said it. Re: Drink on Rome now
Oh I don’t think there’s any way he’ll leave for an OC job. Yes there are some schools that could give him a raise to do so, but he’s already got P5 OC experience. If he keeps winning, he won’t have to wait long for a prominent HC job.

One of these years someone will probably hire Harsin away from Boise, also.AppfaninCAALand wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2019 4:24 pmDrink's home state's SEC flagship Arkansas Razorbacks will probably be looking for a coach come December.appstatealum wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2019 3:00 pmRight, that’s why I said it. Back on track, that was a really good interview. Never have really been a Jim Rome fan but it was really good. I like Coach Drinkwitz more every time I hear another interview.

Did anyone catch Coach Drinkwitz saying "since we joined Division I?"
