App currently 22 in the ESPN power rankings. I don’t put much stock in that because the weekly NFL PR’s are stupid half the time.

They also have Boise over us. With a loss. To 3-4 BYU. I'm giving up on ESPN

Personally I don’t bother even checking anything other than AP, Amway and CFP. There’s so many other one-off rankings and power polls; they generate a weekly column for various websites, but the actual rankings don’t matter.

Journalists and Sports Columnists all want an easy storyline from time to time: Michigan will be behind App in the AP Poll this week.

Here is the ballot for Norm Wood, ACC reporter in VA. If we see several more look like this then the prediction of 21 and just ahead of Boise State will hold up. I think Wake Forest and Iowa State enter like he has.

1 Bama
2 LSU
3 Clemson
4 Ohio St.
5 Okla
6 Penn St.
7 ND
8 UF
9 Aub
10 Ore
11 UGA
12 Wis
13 Utah
14 Bay
15 SMU
16 Tex
17 Minn
18 Cin
19 Mich
20 Iowa
21 App St.
22 Boise St.
23 Iowa St.
24 Ariz St.
25 Wake

I gave up on ESPN over 10 years ago. They are horrible and not because they have us behind Boise State but just so many head scratching opinions and picks by them.

At least ESPN knew that we were ranked last week. Athlon Sports seems to think that we finally made it into the top 25:

I read it this morning. A lot of glaring issues with it.
Pollsters won't drop Michigan until after rivalry week im sure, they want to keep the BIG10 relevant by keeping their punching bag (Michigan) ranked to bolster SOC for PennSt and OSU. Michigan is garbage.

#22 in coaches.

I bet 21 in AP poll or #22 and very close to Boise State.

Now you see why I say we still need Boise State to lose one more. There will still be some voters who have them ahead of us.

We will see if the doubt starts to creep in after this first loss. I don't really see another potential loss on their schedule... Maybe Utah St?

SMU gives up a lot of points, I feel they are going to get bit sooner or later. While App has been improving each week, these other teams are sputtering.

Boise ahead of us with 1 loss is a joke. Their signature win is against a horrible FSU team.

Maybe some doubt but if San Diego State and Boise both win out they will face in what will likely be a matchup of 2 top 25 teams for the MWC title, like the MWC had last year. I really want Boise to lose one game in November or at least the MWC title game to feel safe.

I have been following the polls and CFP closely the last 2 years and even went back and looked at previous year as I saw we might be in this boat either in 2019 or 2020. Voters give the MWC champ a lot of credit as long as they don't have 2-3 losses.

SMU has at least 3 potential losses but I do think they are good. They have a real good QB and can score a lot of points. This is why we were so tough on the defense early on because you can't give up over 30 a game on defense and expect to win every game often. Eventually someone will have the ball last and score to beat you in a close one.

I do think SMU loses one game but they could have 2 wins over top 25 programs so could they still sneak back in and leapfrog us? I don't think they do if we keep getting better and continue to beat the spread.

The coaches poll is an absolute joke and I have no clue why we hold it in high regard. They should call it the Grad Assistant's Poll

Take into consideration APPs signature win? Every team that we have played except Louisiana which beat a bad Mississippi State team that has a losing record. I'm all for high as we can be and think we are fielding our history's best team. Boise has that been there before for pollsters, APP is new to this and will take time to establish a perennial name, if we can.

Agreed. As long as we are in the Top 25 and seeing the App Brand scroll across the bottom + be mentioned in multiple conversations by the talking heads, we are in a good place.

It's weird this year in that we are rooting against other G5 schools to help our position, yet overall we want the G5's to beat up on the P5's to close the gap.

Because, aside from us, most of the other top G5s dont have anymore P5 games this year. So nothing they do affects that position.

Right, UNC doesn’t move the needle either. So say that’s a wash. We are still undefeated, they are not. We both play a G5 schedule. The MWC and the Sunbelt are relatively close In Sagarin polls. I get that they’ve earned the brand equity, I just don’t agree nor like it.

Louisiana didn’t beat Miss. State... they lost by double digits and played them at home.
