Re: ULL
Loudest game? Compared to what? App's home games and UNC are easily louder venues than the number of fans Louisiana is going to bring. This isn't 5 years ago where they may have packed 30,000 in for this game.

Re: UL
S&P+ favors Louisiana by around 1.5 points I believe. That was before last week though and includes home field advantage (which I don't think Louisiana will have much of). Call it a push.

Re: UL
Last I checked we're 42 in SP+ and they're 56 or so... not sure about that. I know Massey favors us heavily. Computer rankings have definitely been pretty good with us this year

Re: UL
Their team gave us a game at home in the SunBelt Championship. That was with our great defense.
I'd say we have our hands more than full to win there.

Re: UL
But the point rating system makes it a push because of home field advantage. Following Week 4, App was at 6.6 while Louisiana was at 3.2, giving a margin of 3.4. Subtract 2.6 for HFA and you get App by 0.8 points.yosef69 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2019 9:40 amLast I checked we're 42 in SP+ and they're 56 or so... not sure about that. I know Massey favors us heavily. Week 5 Updated: Has App as a 2.2 point favorite. Line will probably be App at -5 or something based simply on where Vegas thinks it will get action.

Re: UL
I feel like the weeknight kickoff eliminates much of the home field advantage. This game will come down to who can stop the run the best. I think this will be by far the toughest matchup for us defensively based on what I have seen so far. Ragas is an absolute nightmare to stop, even more so than Lemay was for Charlotte, and we didn't do so hot against him. I don't think their QB will overwhelm us by any means but he can make about any throw on the field. He also loves to throw the slant which has given us problems all year. (Coastal didn't throw the slant enough IMO). I foresee it being a shootout with whoever has the ball last scoring the winning points.

I like RPI data. About this point in the year, it becomes more relevant. According to their analysis:

It has us giving up way too many points! I would love to see us clamp down a little and those scores for opponents drop about 10 points or so. Could you imagine how those scores would look if we beat ULL 44-33, GSU 47-20, South Carolina 44-27, Troy 44-28. That would be top 20 caliber play there!

Re: UL
Lafayette could be hotter and even more humid than Chapel Hill was, even with an evening game time. Strength & Conditioning coach has his work cut out for himself this week. A cramp at the wrong time, to the wrong player could be disastrous in what likely will be a very close game. It’s a good thing we have a week and a half to prepare. A few more wind sprints might be a GOOD THING! (If they even do wind sprints anymore!)

"A perfect offense doesn’t need to score the most points, but it can score whenever it needs to. App State may have led the league in points per game a season ago, but Louisiana averaged more points per drive."
The Cajuns' AD is doing everything possible to promote this game and sell it out. Alcohol is being slashed 20-40%

Re: UL
To extend that quote a bit:
"A perfect offense doesn’t need to score the most points, but it can score whenever it needs to. App State may have led the league in points per game a season ago, but Louisiana averaged more points per drive. It should be obvious which is more important."
(Looks up results from last season just to make sure I didn't hallucinate them)
I mean, judging from the two double-digit head-to-head wins and the 11-2 record vs. 7-7... I guess whatever we did better was more important.

Re: UL
I just read their message boards about the game with us. They're fired up, saying it's their biggest home game in 5-6 years. Ours looks like we are just excited about trying to get ranked. I think we really need to reign in on them and figure out how to stop their offense. Hopefully drink has the team thinking about nothing but the Cajuns.

Re: UL
From everything Coach D has said, last week is gone. The next game is the Cajuns. Nothing else matters.

Re: UL
Contrary to what some have posted. Looking at everything from ESPN, I'd say LaLa will be a 4-5 point favorite when the Vegas line comes out.

Re: UL
FPI is the least accurate of the computer rankings. Massey, colley, sp+ all have us favored. ESPN is the only one that has us losing.Black Saturday wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2019 1:25 pmContrary to what some have posted.
