For the folks that want to know why top 25 matters. I watched college football final. They showed highlights from all of the top 25 teams and very few others. (Not Appalachian)

If we have a football team budget for PR and you want to be mentioned for the "free" PR, Top 25 is the best way to be mentioned on EVERY show.

I could not believe we were not mentioned. Maybe I overlooked it. I saw very few highlights of App on any national shows.

I would love to hear from others if you heard our name on national shows.

Its possible that we have a subsection of fans who actually dont know this...maybe they've been st all games in person for years and dont know the power of the top 25....but more than likely its just people playing devils advocate. Some people just like to argue.

Staying in the top 25 should absolutely be one of our goals. If it isnt....we are shooting too low. It shouldnt be our primary goal....winning each game, a conference title and a bowl game should. But...you dont grow much without top 25 exposure

Until D improves, we should not be top 25.

With our defense playing down from last season, and on the road against Louisiana, I'm good with not being ranked at this time. I think if we continue to win then by the end of October we're ranked, and at that point hopefully our defense improves enough to keep that ranking.

There is nothing bad about having a ranking beside your name. It means you’re good.

I want us to be ranked, but unless we fix our D- secondary we don't need to be ranked. I don't want to get ranked and lose it the very next week like last year.

It's better to have been ranked and lost than to have never been ranked at all.

I think some people are worried that we'll be jinxed and that the players will have a drop off if we get ranked like what happened last year. Just like they get bent out of shape if we fans talk about a game that's not the next one. They think we're going to cause the team to lose focus because we're talking about, say the USC game in November.

I have seen it on there before. They scroll the top 25 first on the ticker before other games as well.

My point has always been don't harp on what you can't control. We can't control when we get ranked. The goal is to be ranked every week but we have not built that brand name yet.

The posts speculating on if we can get in or not just gets annoying. We will get in when we get in. Once we do I hope we stay in but if you stress over our ranking just realize what takes 8 weeks to get will go away completely in just one week. If LSU takes a loss they drop a few spots because of who it is to. Because we are in the SBC we will lose every vote if we lose unless it is a team ranked or receiving votes.

Is it important to eventually be ranked all the time? Yes. However, right now voters don't have that respect for us yet and we should worry more about beating ULL and then the rest because if we keep winning, we will inevitably be ranked anyway.

I get what you're saying, but it really depends on what the other 130+ teams are doing. It's not just about us, you have to measure us against others.

Without looking, I'd be willing to be there are teams in the top 25 that are giving up as many/more points/yards/etc. as we are..

I want to be ranked very badly but I want to earn it. It was a joke we we were ranked last year when we got ranked. USC and UNC don't take us seriously because they think we got lucky with beating nobody. Let's go beat these P5 teams and then we earn that ranking and respect.

We beat Coastal worse than we did last season, and it would've been worse if not for a garbage time touchdown by the Coastal first teamers against App's 2nd, 3rd, and 4th string defense.

56 - 30 is what most people who examine the box score will see, and like it or not, 26>16 (which was the margin last season).

Also, regarding the opinion that we shouldn't get ranked until we KNOW we can keep the ranking....that's ridiculous. You never know what is going to happen. The more times we make it into the top 25 the higher likely hood that we remain there and the easier it is go get back there. It also makes it less of a "special" thing each time we get into the top 25 and less of a distraction. It's just the norm....

Yes there are teams giving up points like we are but it is to Wisconsin, LSU, Auburn, Oregon, etc. We are giving them up to Charlotte and Coastal Carolina right now. While those teams are going to improve and are better they are not top 25 caliber.

So far we have not played like a top 25 and honestly don't deserve to receive votes yet. Do we have top 25 talent? Yes. Am I glad for the exposure of being in there? Yes. But honestly right now I think anyone voting for us should have their head examined. I'm glad to get it when we do but I hate to get it and then fall out quickly.

If we beat ULL say 42-10 then I would say we deserve to be ranked. ULL is a solid team and that would be way worse than Mississippi State beat them, who is a respected P5 program.

I'm glad that these guys are not AP voters as they seem to have a relatively low opinion of our team and the opponents we've played. We beat the Tar Heels (who had wins against ACC & SEC opponents) and they came 1 play away from beating Clemson the following week. We beat a CCU team handily that has beaten another P5 team. Looks like a pretty decent resume to me and we can only beat the teams that line up against us.
Last year we finished with two losses and no P5 wins and if Virginia Tech had beaten Cincinnati in their bowl we'd have finished in the Top 25 as opposed to the 26th most votes.

Obviously, it is great no matter if we deserve it or not. The issue is if we can't sustain it by beating all the teams we should then we just won't last long. We need to get to the point where we have so much more talent that the question is how much do we win by and how high will we rise each week. Again, let's mention and be glad when we do get ranked but we have some on here who wet their pants.

People like me are the ones who wanted to move up to FBS all along. It was about 40 years too late to be honest. We were always ranked in FCS so I naturally expected we could acquire the talent to be ranked in FBS at some point.

Most who feel like me have higher goals than those wetting their pants over that 1 week 25 rating. How about an eventual move to the AAC and to be ranked consistently every week with a NY6 Bowl bid 2 out of 5 years? How would something like that sound? We are in the SBC now though and just need to run the table.

The SBC is not respected like it should be and thus we will struggled to get that respect until we beat P5s. I could see a week where we get ranked 25 and win but fall back out. We could beat ULM by 10-13 but a couple teams behind us beat a ranked team and they bypass us.
