Pass Interference?

In this past Saturday's game, why was pass interference not called when the Coastal defender literally crawled on our receiver's back? The crowd reacted with boos in unison for several minutes it seemed like.

I agree, and on the flip side, I didn't think the pass interference called on Jolly (think it was Jolly) at UNC was justified. To me that play (at UNC) was just well defended.

Believe they may have said it was not catchable, but that may have been hard to tell give how much he was impeded.

This is the only explanation, but the ball was in play to the middle of the field and the defender was on Virgil’s back before he would’ve had any chance to adjust to the ball. It was one of the most egregious calls I’ve seen in a long time.

Totally agree, no foul; going for the ball and got his hand on it. The ACC announcers clearly thought it was not a fair call. "That's a hard one to call" they said. On the positive; overall that game was called very fairly.

Even though college games take WAY too long to play with TV timeouts and replays perhaps they should institute the new deal they have in the NFL where you can challenge a PI. Can't imagine there being a ton of questionable calls in a game but there can be an impactful one. Thanks goodness the college PI isn't a spot foul.

Yeah , that one.The defender climbed up his back ,and it was third down as I recall. We might could have blown it open at that point.

The frustrating part is nothing is ever stated by the conference after the game regarding officials missing a call or being incorrect. If coaches and players must be accountable for actions so should official crews.

Don't recall the Coastal no call, but the one called on Jolly against the holes was bad, and if I recall correctly, sustained a scoring drive. Nonethless, other than last year's terribly officiated game at the stink, I am satisfied with what we have experienced since upgrading to FBS. SmallCon/FCS officiating sucked!

I believe you are correct, pretty sure the bad call extended that drive that led to them scoring.

I had a great view of the play and I couldn’t believe the no-call. Couldn’t believe it. The DB didn’t only jump on his back, but gave a little hop and windmill chop before he did it. Seemed like the calls evened out after the video replay and prolonged booing. Also, there were a couple of very late whistles calling the play dead and an earlier bad flag thrown on us that was picked up.

The common denominator for the bad calls in the North Carolina and Coastal Carolina games were the Scum Belt officials. The low quality officiating continues. I'll swear the crew that did the Hole game missed the days at ref school when HOLDING was taught.

Aren't the SBC refs still connected with SEC refs? In other words aren't we getting some SEC refs in our pool? I thought at one time that was the case and figured it still is.
That was a bad call at Carolina but on some other plays we did some grabbing of jersey's on pass defense. I was overall satisfied that we got a relatively even game from that perspective.
The Coastal interference stunk, in fact I think defender did it intentionally because he got burnt and it was only way to stop catch. Also the call on us early for unsportsmanlike when their QB ran and got pushed down after whistle should not have been called. On replay it was very trivial as pack was tossing and tugging at moment whistle was blown. There were several more egregious examples of that same situation from Coastal side later in the game that were not called.

Boy, i do. It was just as bad on the replay. The DB had both hands on his shoulder pads as he jumped. Very very bad call. And the crowd knew it too.

That is not working out too well. I was at Lambeau Field (where they show full replays on the big screen exactly as the head official is seeing them) last Thursday night for the Packers-Eagles. Two PI no-calls were challenged. Neither was overturned, one 100% should have been and the other probably should have been. Plus, the Eagles game-winning interception should have been looked at for defensive PI (it was in the last two minutes, so it should have been booth initiated. It was never looked at. The new system is not working
The Center Back judge on Saturday just missed the call. He conferred with other officials during the next change of possession and slapped his hands as he was getting into position. He knew he missed it. Mistakes happen.

Officiating is not an easy task. Fans booing you after they have the benefit of slow-mo replay, having to watch multiple WR routes in their area, not always having the best angle, and what makes matters worse a catch and pass interference call has become over complicated. I do think this particular play was pass interference, but I don't get on officials. They have a tough job. Errors will be made, and I pray that they don't bring challenging P.I. to college, especially since every play is under review.
