Bear likes App State as a leading G5. herbstriet still doesn't like G5s. #BeatULaLa

Herbie is right. A G5 team will never get in the playoff with just 4 spots. It won't happen and it should not happen unless a G5 is undefeated with 2-3 wins over a ranked team and 1-2 of those need to be against a ranked P5 team. If UCF could not do it the last two years we know it won't happen.
A lot indeed. I already eliminate all G5 teams to start the year unless they have games against multiple ranked teams on the schedule because without wins over ranked teams the best a G5 can do is a NY6 bowl, which is fine with me. I know that teams at our level don't belong in a playoff unless we get up to 8-12 teams and it will still be hard then unless there is a clear path laid out for an automatic bid.
That's what people don't understand. Once kids get paid we will never be able to beat a team like UNC again. Right now we have a shot if we recruit better than UNC but our good kids will bolt to get paid by the power programs. G5 and P5 will be a completely separate division. FCS will be Division 2 basically because G5 and P5 will be the new FBS/FCS divide.appstatealum wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2019 10:47 amJust wait until kids can get paid. There will be even further seperation and eventually the P5/G5 structure will dissolve. It'll be the Power schools competing with each other in a "super conference" and then everybody else. This is when we will start to see regional alignments for money reasons. The super conference will be getting most of the TV money
I don't think that happens. That would be further motivation for ULL, like they need anymore. The TV networks put us on in the middle of the week for football programming. They don't care if we are ranked or not. People will watch because it is the only game that night anyway.spacemonkey wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2019 12:20 pm"They", the powers that be, may pull some strings to get us ranked this weekend so that Wednesday's game at Louisiana will be a game with a ranked team.
Correct, the COA already creates a divide, the fact that there will be less restrictions after the NIL legislations, it will widen. The big schools will welcome this. The gap is getting tighter between G5 and P5 and the bigger schools do not want to run the risk of losing market share. The more teams that become relevant, or recruit athletes that people want to follow, the more eyeballs (and therefore money) that goes somewhere else. We can hate the NCAA, which I do, but they are the ones casting a wider net to get their share of the big fish and the small fish.
Exactly. Guess who will ultimately pay the players? Schools won't let it dip into profits. So many fans are pulling for the players to get paid but they forget that most players will just blow the money and still be at the same spot they would be as a graduate with or without it. They also forget that the fans will indirectly be the ones paying because we will pay more for tickets and other students are going to pay more student fees./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2019 9:45 pmI can see schools raising the athletic fees to offset the cost of paying players. They're not going to dip into their profits.
A very high probability you are right. So much has changed, but it's still the same. G5 has the most lose in this social justice movement. No way do G5 schools have the sugar daddies to fund this corruption.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2019 12:31 pmThat's what people don't understand. With the obvious talent disparity between the P5 top 8-12 and the top G5, there's only a snow balls chance of a G5 beating a top seeded or top ranked team in an expanded playoff. Yes, G5 would get the 8th seed if the planets aligned properly. How bad was it that The Ohio State beat Cincinnati 2 weeks ago?
Well, the schools aren't the ones who will be paying, it will be local businesses or whatever. The schools will end up raising fees because they most likely will get less donor money due to donors paying kids directly./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2019 9:45 pmI can see schools raising the athletic fees to offset the cost of paying players.
